I think they're roughly the same. The games haven't been really difficult since they introduced the regenerating health system. Going through the original Call of Duty on veteran is probably the most fun I've had in the series.

The thing I found that was different was the amount of cheap shit that was put into Black Ops, such
as the vehicle section when you're going after steiner. You come to the corner and there are enemies at right angles to each other and even on 3200 dpi (which disgusts me) the turret will not traverse quick enough to kill them all. That one really annoyed me for 20 minutes or so. This was on veteran so don't know if it's the same across all difficulties. Another annyoing one was in the tunnels when you come to the first room and a VC just strafes across spraying. That one was annoying because it's the sort of thing you die to once and never again, it just makes it feel cheap.

I haven't noticed it.

Now if you will excuse me, I still have to beat Heart of the Riech on Vetren, 2 years after WaW's release.
Oh [deity], that level took me about a month of being stuck, after I reached the first set of steps in front of the Reichstag >.>
The first set being the one with the destroyed Panther/Tiger II (Not sure which, didn't pay enough attention >.>)
Well, good luck.

OP: Campaign, I'd say there are easier bits and harder bits. As mentioned before, Heart of the Reich is an absolute pain in the ass, where some levels can be breezed through. MW2 was easy on Veteran. MW, I could never beat the countdown near the end of the game, in the missile base, and gave up.
As for multiplayer, different killstreaks require different amounts of kills on each game. A chopper gunner on MW2 is 11 kills, I believe, and only 7 on Black Ops, I think.

What is this 'easy' crap people keep coming out with?

There is no such thing as easy in a multiplayer game. It is only as easy as the people you play against and there is always someone better than you.

Wait, we're talking about multiplayer?
That makes no sense, how can it be easier?

No.

I played Call of Duty 4 and honestly thought it was a bit too easy.

I breezed through it with no problem.

However, I died a total of 34 times in the first fucking mission of Black Ops.

Not sure if I just suddenly suck or if they really just made it more difficult. I'm hoping the latter.

Just asking, anyone beat the submarine stealth mission with Price in MW2? I never beat it cause of the retarded 90 second timer
On Veteran?

Yep. Compared to COD4's levels it was a cakewalk. No Fighting In The War Room was one one of the most torturous four hours of my life.

Wait till you get to the first Vietnam level... holy shit that was nasty, even on Normal. Stupid infinite respawns.

Definite NO. Black Ops gets fucking hard in spots. Like, stupid unfun hard.

EDIT: Wait a second... in multiplayer? Uh... what? How would that even be possible?

I got up to the escape level in the Russian prison and kinda gave up there for a while.

Not because it was hard... but because it seemed to glitch out on me for some reason. I get to the part right after
that big guy (Sergie I believe is his name) dies and kill all the people in the room, but there's no where else to go. The little arrow telling you where to head next just keeps pointing down >>

So that's when I started up multiplayer and I'm addicted to it.

your score can plumment due to unlucky occurences such as a predator missile seeking you out or getting spawn killed five times in a row the second you skipped a killcam...
Maybe i've been unlucky but I have been having this in Black Ops as well:

For example.... last night I was top of my team with no deaths.

Suddenly, the guys I just killed have spawned directly behind me in my team's original spawn... they gun me down and I respawn in exactly the same spot - right behind them.

Gun one of them down only to have him spawn behind me AGAIN.

Die and then respawn right into the path of an incoming RC Car, respawn, turn a corner, another RC Car appears and BOOM.

I actually almost put a fist shaped hole in the wall.

Sounds like an AI or checkpoint bug. I had both several times during the campaign, which was pretty frustrating when I had to restart an entire level after reaching the final scene.

It was supremely easy and the same thing was happenening to a lot of other people too. Please comment on this.
It's only as easy as the team you are against. Play against a talented, organised clan and you'll see how tough it can be.

no. infinite no. WaW and Black Ops are ludicrously, unrealistically, nut-smashingly hard. I played a single checkpoint on "heart of the reich" for three hours straight, because nazi soldiers can apparently lob grenades with such accuracy and timing that 6 of them land at directly at my feet while i'm behind a 6-foot wall. Modern warfare(and to a lesser extent, mw2) were actually intuitively challenging games, where enemy ai was modeled after human ability, and although this ability increased with the difficulty, the enemies never reached the godmode level of WaW Veteran difficulty, who could turn and shoot you in the face with an mp40 in .3 seconds from 60 yards the moment you target them in your sniper's scope.

tl;dr IW's ai was definitely better(more realistic), and treyarch merely upped the values on ai traits, making them unstoppable nazi-bots, making their games ultimately harder, though nowhere near better

If the spawn interface were to be tweaked even slightly, then I'd have almost no complaints about the Call of Duty games.
Modern Warfare 2 had some of the worst spawn points I have ever experienced...
"Oh, but it's really complicated to create a perfect spawn system"
Yeah well look at Halo, you get spawn killed so rarely, it just begs the question, why can't Treyarch and Infinity Ward have done the same?

The main difference for me is that IW makes single player difficult in a way that you can get past by getting good, whereas Treyarch just adds loads of cheap parts to the campaign to make it difficult.

For example, on Cod4, No fighting in the war room is a very difficult level. There are lots of enemies, the space is enclosed, you get ambushed easily, etc. However, practice makes you better. After a while, I devlopped strategies to beat the difficult parts, and it comes down to player skill(use of flashbangs, knowing when to hang back, which cover to take, etc).

World at War also has a very hard veteran mode. However, it is very hard for entirely diffierent reasons. It is marked by bad AI(enemies ignoring team with back turned in front of them to go for you, team being stupid, etc), and is infamous for it's greande spam. It is hugely more frustraring because it depends far more on luck.

MW2 is similary lacking in cheapness, as I recall. Having said that, I didn't find it very hard, and haven't played it since, so may be forgetting something.

I can't comment on Black Ops because my game messes up at the end of the first level.

Onto the multiplayer. Here, neither should be more difficult than the other. However, bad spawns in black ops do result in a lot of stupid deaths. The same goes for chepa tactics in MW2, but those tactics are availible to you even if you don't use them. IW make much better maps, but sadly MW2 had other major issues.

This is more of an aside than an answer to the question, but hey: I like that the top rank online is lower and that there are more prestiges. It means getting to the top rank is easier - there's no buggering about at rank 73 just wishing you had enough experience to prestige - and it's compensated by there being more prestige levels overall. I'll say this much: it's clever.

Right - carry on. *Goes back to procrastinating whilst smoking a pipe"

(Bulk of quote removed due to taking up space)

Pretty much agreed with your whole post and I have to agree, the W@W nazis did have homing fuseless grenades.

Oh and welcome to the escapist, enjoy your stay.
