This question has bugged me for a while. My friends say that its worthless and one is way better off staying at max rank with all the "good" guns...My argument against that is that the prestiges get you style points and shinies. As well, the game can get old if you don't rank up.

I prestiged to max rank, and I enjoy it. Now, I would like to see what everyone else thinks.

They are worthless the lower level you are (Lower levels make fun of them), but you find them enjoyable the higher you get.

Was better in CoD 2. No ranks, no unlocking. Just pure skill based fun.

No not at all. It has a point. Its not fun having the best guns all the time, I like starting over. It makes it more challenging and fun in my opinion.

Here is a thought if it fun starting over then when you hit max do you total start over to begin a new or do what I did was get ready to first prestige but never did because it stuped to start over when you worked so hard just for gold things and shiny rank cause it make you a jerk when you are smoug about your rank to others.

They show how much you play the game, not how good you are. Really the only reason they are there is keep the obsessive compulsive people playing the game. Like is it worth playing a game for a massive amount of time to get a shiny little medal? No, i am not prestiged, because apart from the novelty value of the first 2 times it isn't worth it.

They are like the katana body piece in halo 3.

Looks good, shows your skills, but worthless.

I personally find it funny that everyone says that they suck, yet they go prestige when they are able.

I would say no, because starting over forces me to try new playstyles, because I don't have all my weapons/perks

Honestly?
The only thing I'd be sad about losing at all would be my silenced M4, and maybe the G3 - All the other unlockables honestly confer little advantage for my playing style.

Still, I think it's entirely pointless unless you want to prove that you have WAY too much time on your hands. I guess for a highschooler or something it's feasible, maybe even desirable, but I just don't have the time.

Yes, but at least my gold cross gives me e-peen advantage and the all-important 'Intimidation Factor' when playing Mercenary TDM.

The only things I really miss are uav jammer and claymores. You get both of them pretty early so its no big deal. I quite like using different weapons again. Its easy to end up using the same 5 guns over and over again at max rank.

Yeah, that was my main problem. Search and Destroy without claymores gets painful at times...

short answer yes long answer yeeeeeeees sorry couldnt help my self but the real long answer of them boing pointless is this, they are just tokens given to people who spend too much of their life shooting people in an online game and feel that these images next to their gamertags improve their worth as a human being and justify the fact they have spent the best part of more than a year playing a game that has more predictable tactics than the soviet russians.
