I'm at prestige 7 i would be 10 and beyond if i had prestiged earlier. i stayed at no prestige for over a year. I am not prestiging again. Mainly because the game got boring. You can only do something over so many times >.>

Well it's clearly the best gun in the game. If you argue against that then you must play hardcore or something. Still, I only use it for clan matches and "serious" games. I'd much rather snipe or use MP5 most of the time.
I have so many counters for "M16 best gun", its not even funny.

1. Burst Fire - you see 3 guys directly in front of you. You burst fire one, maybe two...A fully automatic gun could kill all 3 in half a second, let along a shotgun.
2. Accuracy - Sniper rifle.
3. Grenade Launcher - require LoS to be accurate at all, random grenades are arguably better, as you don't even need to SEE the target to get kills more than half the time.

Even in clan matches and whatnot, I will still use a silenced MP5 + UAV jammer over basically anything. Shotgun + juggernaut also works very well.

Then again, the best gun is all personal preference...and I prefer an accurate, fully automatic assault rifle over any other assault rifle...I don't have a favorite gun, because I realize that many different situations will occur, resulting in one wanting range, or high damage or simply a gun that spews out a ton of bullets.
Ok... well it's what every good player uses for clan matches. Every single one of them uses Red Dot M16 with Stopping Power. So you can argue that FOR YOU, it isn't your best gun, but arguing that it isn't the overall best gun in the game is pretty futile. The proof is pretty apparent.

I think that it is pretty worthless unless they reward you somewhat for it, like WaW, they at least allowed you to have extra weapon classes for higher prestige levels.

I never saw a reason to prestige in CoD 4. I stayed at level 55 no prestige and went for challenges instead. What actually ended up happening was I had fun with my favorite few weapons instead of trying to get anything. I have never seen a reason to prestige other than to get a new symbol. It really does nothing to help you. I get annoyed when people say "what an idiot/noob he hasn't prestiged." Who cares?
I felt the same way as you, then I tried it. It actually is surprisingly fun to prestige, as you're without your favorite crutches and have to readjust your tactics. It keeps the game from getting too stale.

I've played plenty of clan matches, and I still prefer my M4 + red dot and stopping power. It is basically the same as a M16, the difference being full automatic - so if I kill and guy in 1/2 bullets, I can stop firing. Also, if it takes more than 3 to kill the dude, I can just keep firing until they die. The accuracy is basically the same with both guns.

As (kind of) proof of this, I just went 52/7 with a 25 killstreak using only my M4 class, and I wasn't camping. Admittedly, this was against the public, but I have never had so much success with the M16 - in any situation.

It still boils down to personal opinion, and mine is that the M14 is shit and the M4 is awesome.

And wow, this is getting off-topic a lil' bit.

All this talk about the noob tube and class arrangement, it makes me proud that Infinity Ward wanted discussions like this to occur. They added perks so that every game is unique and they added weapons to fit all the circumstances they could think of at the time, so if you ***** about that stuff you are just bitching about how infinity ward made a best-selling game that you dont like
Um what?

Infinity Ward produced some fun, chaotic but awful multi-player (as in it takes little skill); I fail to see how people not liking certain aspects of a game means they ultimately don't like it - care to run that through?

The game sold due to word of mouth, hype and an amazing single-player game.

The game did not sell by word, it was sold by the shear expectation of an actually exciting storyline since it was placed in modern times, i was dissappointed in the fact it didnt tell you where you were but if it was truly modern warfare it would leave that out because we truly are fighting in many countries where we know very few. and the multi-player system was what sold it with the ranking system, great maps, and wide variety of weapons to suit all players. I have found myself making so many classes on there that i change them every day, i have stealth type, run and gun type, and so on so i dont the only things that sold it was hype, word of mouth, or the single-player but more over that it produced something new. isnt that why people bought the goddamned Wii? (Oh gawd the Wii)

A large number of the people I know bought the game after being told by friends or reviews that it was a good game.

Yes, but at least my gold cross gives me e-peen advantage and the all-important 'Intimidation Factor' when playing Mercenary TDM.
No intimidation factor there. Most 10th prestige uses M16 with Grenade Launcher.
I think you're confused. Most bad 10th prestige players use M16 and/or noob tube. Most good 10th prestige players use a variety of weapons and strategies.
No that is not the case on either Ps3 or 360 I own both and have stopped at 55 no prestige on both and without being big-headed I rape completely on both I find that usually 10th prestigers don't generally have that much skill they just know everything about the game like where the nade/spray points are and such but some of the best people I've met have remained 55 no prestige like me.

Yea but that is your friends not the population. i know their is no way i can prove that millions of gamers bought the game for a certain reason but i know it was not by word or hype

I don't know what makes upgrading your prestige level to be irresistable to me.

Yes, I lose everything I have spent so long to work for and my only reward is a slightly shinier badge and the knowledge that I'll have to prove myself all over again but there's something about another challange to overcome that convinces me it's worthwhile (even if five minutes later I begin to ask myself what the hell I was thinking).

The prestige gives people something to do. When I still played COD4, I only prestiged when multiplayer got boring, it gave me something to do.

How are people still talking about this?!

Anyway my many-times-said opinion is that yes, they are worthless, and as such they carry presteige - if they were worth something there would be an incentive for the average gamer to get one, so it wouldnt carry the same 'i cant believe he did that, kudos' weight.

That said since almost everyone presteiges anyway for god knows what reason the system isnt really working.

I think the reason is because a good number of the good guns are unlocked at a very low level...probably so noobs don't get owned instantly, but it also takes away the feeling of you are actually getting challenged when you prestige. I mean sure, its another 55 levels, but you get all the good guns right away.
