I've met girls who play gaming. I make fun of them, but usually because their like, 8.

No really. I've met 3 girl gamers playing Halo 3 and Modern Warfare One who were below the age of 10.

I've met two above that age. The 3 below the age of 10 were annoying, the 2 above took a bit to get used to.

Depends on whether they are actually intelligent and tolerable, or brainless and annoying.

but besides that No,generally I find them slightly more tolerable to play online with than men.(On WoW anyway...)

I have never heard a chick on chat in lobbies so no real opinion. I say we keep the women tho and get rid of the asshole 11 year olds. When you are saying agh mom I don't want to clean my room now over and over, and i tell you to shut up... you shut up not say or what are you gonna do about it? Then that makes me want to find you rip out your intestines and find some way to get the video on psn as a warning to others.

Depends on how they behave.

But to make my view on the issue clear, this is only the exact same reply I would give to the question "Are guy gamers a nuisance?" or the more general "are people a nuisance?" In other words, no, I do not find female gamers (or at least the very few I have interacted with) any more irritating than anyone else. I'll treat them the same either way. If they're idiots, jerks or act like an attention whore and try and use the fact that they're a girl to try and make me treat them differently, then yes, they are a nusiance.

What irritates me far more however are the people that jump on them for being female. The whole "OMG A GURL ON THE INTERNETZ!1!!1!" thing really has to stop. It's childish, moronic and only serves to intimidate females and drive them away from gaming. Which is a terrible shame, I think.

I've only ever been to one gaming convention and from what I've seen, I would never go crazy over a gamer girl. My eyes are still recovering from what I saw that day.

It's not right that they're treated differently.

But I understand why people are usually like "ZOMG" when a girl is playing. From what I've seen, a girl playing an online FPS is extremely rare.
Heh. The TF2 clan I'm part of has about 1/4 or so of the regulars are girls. So no, they aren't nuisances to me. If they were, I wouldn't be in that clan.

... girl gamers are just plain freakin awesome. So why the hatred?
...
Cause the loud majority of online gamers (at least in PvP gaming) threats everyone with hate.
Who here hasn't been called fag, idiotic noob, no-life-40-year-old-virgin-who-lives-in-moms-basement, retarded, stupid fuck, been told to kill themselves or something like that when playing online, raise your hand.

if you're doing it wrong, your team hates you (if it's a game where your effort affects them like MOBA's and RTS for instance)
If you're pwning, the other team hates you, and since you're pwning them you are obviouslya n00b-fag according to their logic.
And if they're doing bad, or are arrogant and doing very good, everyone else is a n00b-fag.

thats the internet for ya.

The only time that I think girl gamers are a nuisance is when they try to capitalise on the fact that they're girls (and it makes me suspicious that they're really men, but nyeh). I once played a game where their was an entire community based around a team of girls, with all the male gamers fawning over them, whilst they lapped up the attention. Frell that annoyed me.

Only the infamously stupid XBL thirteen-year-olds are concerned with something as trivial as the gender of the other players, why not stop caring about who online is a girl and who's a guy and just PLAY THE DAMN GAME!!

Like in the poll, it all depends on how they behave. As mentioned before, the attention whores are no worse than the 10 year olds that scream in your ear WTF HAXXXXX. However, the ones that just want to enjoy the game and better the online expierence for themselves and others have are just fine by me, just like their more prevalent male counterparts.

EDIT *raises hand*

They (from what I've seen) fall into 3 categories:
1) See WanderFreak's post [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.162006#4144018]
2) "Heh heh heh! I don't know how to play! Heh heh heh! xxxGhostkiller420xxx (or any generic gamertag that's in the game) is my boyfriend! Heh heh heh! If I'm not talking in an annoying voice than I'm giggling annoyingly! Heh heh heh!"
3) Their high voices causing this basic conversation:
Girl: "[insert whatever the hell you want]."
Guy 1: "Drop some balls/what are you, a girl?"
Girl: "I'm a girl."
Guy 1-max in lobby: "MAKE ME A SAMMICH!/Suck my c***/F*** me/LOL/[anything else insulting]"

Unless they're no mics, that gets rid of the problem. But it pretty much doesn't seperate them from guys, either.

This.

Yeah, being a girl gamer, seeing a thread about whether or not we're "a nuisance" made me raise an annoyed eyebrow until reading the first post. You can probably rework the title of this thread to be a little less...well, sexist.

The best is on XBL when you're playing and dominating and your GF is screaming obscenities into the mic while alternating taking shots of vodka and throwing darts. People get angry fast.

I have never come across any sort of girl being a nuisance or guy being a a sexist jerk when playing online PC FPSs. On consoles however I have encountered such things.

The way to get rid of those annoying attention whores is to ignore them and if possible kick them.
