My entire drama club is comprised of Harry Potter fans, and as far as fanbases go they're one of the best I've ever met. They don't consistently badger me into reading the books or watching the movies, they don't quote it to no end, they can shut up about it, and honestly Harry Potter isn't all that hard to like, anyway. Hell, get me talking about Mass Effect and I'm ten times more annoying than any Harry Potter fan I've ever met! Even to me, sometimes.

They can get extraordinarily overbearing and annoying.
It's almost worse than Twilight. At least Twilight had a big enough 'hatedom' so that it was alright not to like it. With Harry Potter it's like everyone has to love it. They need to chill.

You simply need to read a fanfiction that is truly good (i.e. holds respect for the source material and treats it seriously, rather than indulging in a self-insert fantasy).

As for Harry Potter fans, I don't think they're any worse than any other fanbase.

I'm going to sound off with the 'hardcore fanboys of just about anything are really annoying'
I also hate to sound really sexist but in my experiences things that have more hardcore fanGIRLS tend to be a lot worse. Maybe it's because they tend to scream and such. I do not like screaming outside of a metal album.

Fans who are worse:

-Twilight
-New Star Wars trilogy
-Obama
-Anime
-Kingdom Hearts
-Halo
-Coldplay

Honestly, the Harry Potter fans I know don't try and shove the thing in my face or talk for hours about it like so many of the above fans do.
You have my favorite avatar on this site now.

That exists!

Oh, I know it exists, I just haven't found any really good fanfiction. And nothing can top this [http://www.fanfiction.net/u/2097849/ShakespeareHemmingway]

I would say that most HP fans are a bit more tame then, say, bronies.

They're annoying?

I did have one experience whilst watching the fourth movie a while back where two kids were talking during a good half of it in front of one of their moms. I told them to be quiet, and they gave me a little back talk.

I laughed quietly and creepily just to give them a little scare.

They ended up running out of the theater as soon as the credits rolled.

But I seem to vaguely remember them talking about not reading the books, so I think that hardly counts as a fan.

I dunno, I've seen some bizzare HP fanfiction in my day...then again, that could be applied to just about anything.

That said, if you're a Mass Effect 2 fan, I've got a couple of authors who do some ASTONISHINGLY good work.

Meh, not really. Only the super-hardcore fans, but those guys are annoying for EVERYTHING.

Except Doctor Who. Hardcore Doctor Who fans are rad.

I did not go to a midnight screening so I did not see all the hardcore fans.
I only know one hardcore fan but she does not throw it in your face. but if you start then you will not get her to stop.

I will take Harry Potter fans over Twilight fans any day of the week. Also I don't find them that annoying, especially with the fans we have around here, not all that extreme.

This.

Honestly, everything that creates a buzz is bound to have a few extreme fans, and they're the ones that come across as zealots that are trying to push their borderline-psychotic love for something down everyone else's throat.
As far as me, personally, if it's anything that has any sort of sensational following...well, that's why I tend to aim for the midnight showings. Anyone that typically goes for a midnight show is usually a fairly big fan of the material, and as such, is far more likely to treat the material in question with more respect (IE: Not speaking throughout the course of the film). As far as Harry Potter fans, themselves -- and maybe I'm a bit biased, because if anyone brings it up in conversation, I can actually follow along, as I'm a fan myself -- I haven't met any that were over-the-edge, but I'd treat them like anyone else I don't agree with.

The poll itself could do with a couple more options, though.
Live and let live, y'know?

When I saw Harry Potter Pt 2 on Friday I was so damn pissed ¬.¬. The damn assholes cheered when shit happened, laughed at shitty jokes that I am positive weren't funny. I laughed my arse off when Voldermort gave Draco Malfoy a creepy hug (towards the end of the film).
Crap, there was a .gif of that floating around the net, but I can't seem to find it now.
Everyone laughed their respective arses off, I assure you.
BTW, did anyone else think that Harry's son looked like Bieber?

only mildly, like the people who brought glow sticks to the midnight premiere...
or the asshat that said "oh looks like we've got a couple of dementors here, hurr hurr hurr"
when my little brother and i walked in (we wear all black. it's an aesthetic choice for me.)

what is truly annoying is morons who don't know a damn thing about the series.
like when:
when harry has to go and speak to the grey lady. luna said "you have to speak to someone really old. someone who has been here for a long time." and this person next to me gasps and says... (and im not making this up...) "moaning myrtle!"

...it wasnt that she got it wrong, it's that she got is stupidly wrong.

you want to know what was worse? having to sit through the *shudders* twilight trailer...

batman more than made up for it, though...

Those fans aren't that bad. I've known plenty of Harry Potter "fans" who all they do is ***** and complain about how they don't include "Plot point A or Character B" in a movie. I know someone who has only said that the HP movies suck, besides the first two, simply because of that. It's called an adaptation, people. If they don't make changes, than it wouldn't be adapting.
