It depends. If the killer was drunk or otherwise not able to think straight or thought and could prove that murder was the best course of action the yes. It also depends on who was killed. Were they a good person? Then they cannot be forgiven.

Murder is the intent to kill. If you intend to kill someone, then that makes you a horrible person.
But think of this. Our US soldiers are trained to kill and they will kill if ordered to do so. Does that make them horrible? No.
It's all about point of view. While killing a terrorist might seem a good deed to many; on the other side, that terrorist might have a family that cares about him/her.

No. example "I KILLED 50 people, forgive me!" or "I'm a murderer, but i look like a nice guy, forgive me jury! I know you will!" for all those people who say they value human life should be able to understand that a murderer is a murderer, nothing they can do will bring back that human they killed, and i'll be damned if my taxes keep him alive.

Like most things, sometimes yes, sometimes no. If someone is approaching you with a knife and seems far too interested in your jugular vain, I'd say drop the creep. If on the otherhand you just walk into a summer camp and kill almost a hundred kids then you are not forgivable under any circumstances.

Hope that clears it up for you.

It depends on the murderer. 99% I'd say 'no' but the Max Payne's and Mel Gibson's (or the, I'm killing the people who killed my family) kind of murderers should be judged on a slight bias. Obviously there should be some type of punishment otherwise you'd be giving a big 'OK' to people who are into vigilantism and whatnot.

Example, "He was holding a gun to my kid's head, what was I supposed to do?" does that guy deserve the same punishment as someone who just went out and killed 50 people? You really should think about it before you speak in absolutes like that.

Grace, mercy or whatever you want to call it, is only worth it if its all or nothing, I believe this should be case, if you are merciful or give grace it should be given for anything and everyone. However much I like this ideal, and would love to be able to follow it, I am almost certain I couldn't.

We call that self defense. Look it up.

Just give me any thoughts you have. Personally, I hold to the idea that any act is forgivable, with the exception of first degree murder. To me, once you kill someone else, planned it out and executed them, you have crossed the line between human and monster.

EDIT: since people seem to not understand, I'm talking about first degree murder. Planned, thought about, and finally, done.
I dont think the buck stops with first degree murder for unforgivable acts, maybe ask some victims (or victims familys) how much fogiveness they feel for the person who committed second degree murder/ manslaughter/ rape/ sexual abuse/ A.B.H & G.B.H etc against them or there loved ones.
Those acts can never be forgiven or forgotten when they tend to ruin people for the rest of there lives.
If someone committed one of the above crimes towards you - or someone you cared about, i think you would likley never forgive them.
I know I wouln't.

Actually it's not, self defence is when you are defending yourself, hence the name if it's your kid I believe it's called defence of others. But why should that even matter? In your own words "A murder is a murderer" and last I looked killing in defence of anyone is still considered murder.

For one i get sick and tired of hearing about the 'human rights' of an unprovoked murderer or rapist.
Did they consider the the human rights there victim(s) had to go about their lives without being killed or raped?
I'm guessing not.

we are all simply a product of our environment. from the time we are born we are influenced and shaped until we are able to reapond to the world. these responses we give impact the worlds reaction to us which shape us further, for the rest of our lives. as such there is not true "free will". some may see this as sad but i personally find this to be a good thing because as such i blame no one for anything, nor do i blame those who they grew up with for they are the same. i may get angry at events but i am always able to forgive, not to say that the laws should not be in place as we still need deterrents to prevent others from doing harm. I've done nothing wrong and am not simply trying to blame my upbringing, i am simply reaching a logical conclusion after studying a bit of sociology and psychology. that is my reason for voting yes
