I think that Coed schools are probably the better bet, for socialization, although, I might be the outlier here, because after going to coed schools my entire life, I just don't like people in general. I am nowhere close to a "people person".

Well, the reason for people wanting single-sex schools is that boys and girls learn at different paces, boys develop their reading skills slower, and their math skills quicker.
At a single sex school, boys would only have to keep up with other boys, girls would only have to keep up with other girls.

But then, at single-sex schools, it seems that social skills are not fully developed.

Both have their pro's and con's. I went to a co-ed school. I'm glad I did, and I did fine academically. Or do I mean do.

However, it does seem that members of single-sex schools do better academically on average.

It really depends on the interaction between the boys school and other schools.

My School is an all male school and we have an all girls school sharing the same name just down the road. It allows us some social interaction whiel removing any sexual tension during study.

That, really. You need *some* contact with the opposite sex at the least, and I can't really see any benefits to keeping a school single-sex. I'm thinking single-sex schools are an outdated value of the way studying used to (not) work. Sit down, shut up and listen doesn't learn people things.

Generally no, but I'm so glad I'm in an all women's college.

In other news, I found out that the zodiac protection charm I got in Japan is in colors that promote fertility...

I believe Co-ed to be superior. You interact with both males and females, and can have the chance to develop good social skills by talking to girls (or guys), and maybe get a romantic partner more easily- in the single-sex school there's the stigma of "you're gay", which isn't really helped when they're kept separate from what would give them the chance to be not gay.

So what would you call an important job seeing that keeping your rubbish from piling in the street and pipes from bursting isn't important.

I've been to both and realized that in a single-sex school, there a massive drop in sexual tension, however, the rate of bullying and things like that are MUCH higher. There are problems in both, but I honestly don't think there are benefits in single-sex schools and I certainly don't think they should be the norm.

I went to a regular (co-ed) high school, and even though there were a handful of pregnancies (there was a daycare on the grounds), sex wasn't really an issue. I'm glad I grew up around guys, because while most of my friends were girls, I had a lot of male friends as well. It definitely helped my social interaction skills.

So what would you call an important job seeing that keeping your rubbish from piling in the street and pipes from bursting isn't important.

That's a nessicary job, which almost anyone can do.

More "important" jobs are things like doctors, high end merchants, and similar things like that. In the context I'm talking the "important" jobs are the ones where you make things happen as opposed to doing someone else's will and being the guy those things happen to.

Your absolutly right in of the fact that all of the "important" people couldn't get by without all the peons at the bottom, and that of course is one of the central conflicts of society. The rights of the people at the bottom, compared to the people at the top needing to keep "The Mob" in check. Both of whom who actually have legitimate points in how they see things (as "groups").

I'll put it this way, nobody grows up saying "I want to be the garbage man".

It's always been my opinion that kids that go to Single-Sex schools don't really develop properly. You kind of need interaction with the opposite when you're growing up, especially during puberty.
This. Without girls(or boys, depending on your gender) you won't know how to interact properly or at all with the opposite sex. Its been proven, and its pretty easy to see it too if you do ever encounter someone from a single sex school.

Yeah, ask this question on a forum full of guys and get a uniform answer. I went to both all girls and co-ed and I found all girls to be a million, billion times better. It wasn't like we were isolated, we had a brother school and did heaps of stuff with them, all the girls had boyfriends, but in class it was just us girls. Friendships were stronger, there was no bitchiness, and there was a really liberal approach to discourse, we had really excellent academic discussions.

Both have benefits, but I think single-sex is better.

Co-ed schools teach kids how to cooperate with the other sex in ways they won't pick up on their own. I mean, if you go to an all-guys school, I'm not saying you can't hang out with girls outside of school; however, the school environment can't be replicated in any other setting, so you're still missing a crucial part. Finally, for any school that wants it's students to carry on varied discussions, having gender diversity is key. Girls think very differently from guys, most of the time.

Beats the hell out of me. I've only had experience at co-ed schools.

I'm naturally inclined to think co-ed is better, but I'm taking my opinion with a grain of salt (and not voting). It might just be because I far prefer the company of women than men.

Yeah, I cut a line from MaxTheReapers's post because it didn't apply for my purposes.
(Yeah, that's not very good etiquette...I'm sorry Max.)

Anyways, I don't see the advantages of segregation based on sex, ethnicity, religion, culture or social status.
(Go ahead, call me old fashioned...=P)
I think public schools benefit from including a mix of students from different backgrounds.

Segregating the sexes, that will most likely cause more problems with social interactions later in life for those kids.
