I'm sometimes interested in the "making of" DVDs and art books, and I like the idea of a cloth map for Skyrim. But I find most of the extras in the super collector's editions, the ones that actually cause a significant bump in the price, are things that I'd get no value from.

Example - new Lord of the Rings game:
http://www.complex.com/video-games/2011/07/lord-of-the-rings-war-in-the-north-collectors-edition-details

I'd love to be a guy who has a use for a quiver, but unfortunately I just don't need one right now.

A part of me knows that that vast majority of Collector's Edition games just contain useless crap.

Like Fallout: New Vegas.

I got a deck of cards, a hardback comic, a making of DVD, some poker chips and the platinum chip.

It seemed like a great idea at the time...

I'll still get the Mass Effect 3 CE.

it depends on how much you love figurines....the other stuff usually doesnt interest me, though coles backpack thing from Infamous is really cool, I just wish I had more use for it

I supose you could put it down to if your going to pay full price for it anyway how much more is the CE? (and how awsome is the figurine? seriously the batman one is awsome, thats why I pre-ordered)

I was disapointed that the Deus ex collectos had sold out....(did get the augmented edition though)

The only stuff I'd be interested in are the statuettes and figurines, but those that come in collectors editions tend to be lower quality than those you could just buy normally, so no the collectors editions are not worth it.

Sadly I am a philistine with no interest in art books, soundtrack CDs or making of DVDs.

If that's an actual usable quiver then I might just buy the CE, and make the quiver my brother's birthday present, as he's into archery.

Just goes to show there's always somebody interested I guess.

Other than that I tend to be quite uncaring about merchandise. I'm pretty happy already that I can buy games through steam, so I don't have physical boxes cluttering my room.

Nope. No fucking way. Nuh-uh. Random extra plastic shit for my game is not worth 10 bucks or whatever it costs.

It's a hard question to answer, since it all comes down to just how fond you are of the game. Sometimes your willing to spend the extra cash just to know you went for something extra, collectors edition's exist for exactly that, people who want things for sentimental value, Collectors.

As I said in another thread I think they are a complete rip off.

I have the money for them but believe whole heartedly that paying any more than £40 or £50 for 1 single game is a complete rip off.

Your game isn't going to play any better than someone who paid far less than you and the extra's will amuse you for all of 5 minutes "ooh look a figurine .... on the shelf you go to gather dust" ... "ooh a making of CD .... makes a great frisbee" ... "an art boook wow .... I could have printed these from websites FOR FREE" ..... yep totally justified £100 or more for a collectors edition.

Again, i've said it before, the only time I will ever justify purchasing a collectors edition is if I find one I like the look of in the bargain bin or it's come down in price a bit and i'm rat arsed pissed.

yeah I lean towards stuff I can actually display (I mean what if you were to cut-up the art books and arrange then into some kind of poster......Im seriously considering that) I do like the Idea of a soundtrack however...."making of" not so much

the figurine for Infamous 2 CE looks pretty good quality, the splinter cell one not as much...then again a paid bugger all for it including the game

I pre-ordered batman AC for the figurine, it looks really cool....

anyway I cant but stuff online...so I dont often get a chance to get stuff like this

I think Id get the ME3 just bcause I love the series so much....(no figurine however :/)

I dont think figurines are that bad...they look really cool and can spruce up a dull shelf/ desk (I have one at work)

OK I admit I REALLY like figurines....I'll stop defending them now

Sometimes, if you're a fan of the game, though I hate it when things come with the Special Edition that should really come with the game. Soundtrack, for example. They already provided to you the data and the ability to play it, why can't the just give you the MP3 to go with it?

S'part of the reason I liked The Witcher 2. The regular digital edition from GoG comes with:
Wallpapers, Game Guide, Artbook, Soundtrack, Bonus Videos (45 minutes long), Making Of documentary (50 minutes long), Avatars, More artwork, High res game map, Pamphlet and Envelope (?), And papercraft models of various characters

Now, I'm not saying every game needs to come with that, but they could at least push a soundtrack, digital artbook and maybe a developer commentary or a making of. Films manage it.

I got a T-shirt and a free DLC along with some soundtracks and stuff when I bought the Signature Edition of Dragon Age II. It was worth the price (It only cost a couple of dollars more.)

I recently bought the Witcher 2 Premium Edition. Totally worth it as it for some strange reason was cheaper than the orignial version. And I got a map, some strange coin, soundtrack, DLC and two freakin' papercrafts of Geralt and Triss! :D

Okay, i'll give you the figurines sometimes they serve a purpose and can fill up space on a shelf.

Even though you can buy better quality ones else where I will give you the figurines seeing as you seem to like them.

The making of cd, soundtracks, art books and other useless tripe you get with them serve as nothing more than drawer fillers though.

I don't care how much you like that art work or the music (which you could just download) and the making of cd that you will watch once if at all none of them (or even all of them together) justify the price some (must not abuse) gulli.... (must .. not .. abuse) moro.... (stop it) halfwits (sorry can't help it, people who are happy to pay quite a large sum for useless crap deserve to be mocked) will pay for them.

I could quite easily afford to buy collectors editions for all the games i'm wanting but I really can't justify the price compared to what I get for that price.

Having a bunch of useless shit will not change or enhance my enjoyment of the game it will just serve to piss my wife off with more pointless crap lying around the house.

It is all dependent upon your personal preference for the extras, such as one person may love to collect game statues while another will only like the game sound tracks.

Rule of thumb, always go with Game. It's only £60 at Game, whereas it's £70 at Amazon.

http://www.game.co.uk/Games/Xbox-360/Action-Adventure/Batman-Arkham-City-Collectors-Edition/~r356131/?s=batman+arkham+city

OT: In the collectors edition you get a Batman figure, an art book, early in-game content, the game soundtrack and an animated movie. That, my friend, is definitely worth £20. I'm one of the people who loves to get extra goodies with a game, especially when there's a figure involved. I suggest you fork out the extra £20 to get all those goodies, you won't regret it.

I dont have a credit card and video game figurines are hard to find around where I live

thats why latley I've been going on a CE craze because I think I've always liked that stuff but never had the chance to get it

anyway I do agree that other than the figurines other stuff isnt as interesting, as I said before I like stuff that I can "disply" it disapointed me they dont include posters more often (like I got a kick-ass one from red dead redemption which was a nice surprise)

I am considering cutting up my infamous comic (that I got with infamous 2 CE) into some kind of poster..(I love comic book art) though I cant read it yet because I havnt finished infamous

then again my crazy Ideas dont always go well......

Well i have to say that the Dark Souls Limited Edition looks pretty awesome! Especially seeing as it's the same price as the regular game.

I don't think I've ever had a "collector's" edition of a game.

Can either buy +60% more games or some mass produced, cheesy extras.

Hm.
