Spiders are weird and strange to me, therefore I loathe them. I know it's a stupid reason to dislike a massive proportion of the animal kingdom but I don't care...fucking spiders...

I have a fear of bugs falling from my ceiling onto me while I'm sleeping (While our house was being remodeled I slept in the basement; pretty scary stuff down there), but other than that spiders do not bother me at all. Except for daddy long legs. I think it's their body. That little circle with long spindly legs coming out of it is truly horrifying.
Daddy Long Legs aren't spiders, they're flies.

O.T. I think what I posted in my twitter after viewing page 1 of this thread sums up my opinion on spiders:
Fucking hell I regret going to that Spiders thread. USE FUCKING SPOILER TAGS JESUS CHRIST, AND DON'T HAVE MASSIVE SPIDERS IN 'CUTE' TAGS.
GOD I THINK I HAD A FUCKING HEART ATTACK.
FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK I HATE SPIDERS SO FUCKING MUCH OH GOD IF I COULD WIPE OUT ANY SPECIES IT WOULD SO FUCKING BE SPIDERS.

What scares me is the fact that they could get in your butthole, lay down their eggs, and the whole colony could then eat you from the inside

I don't essentially hate spiders, although I will avoid them if they could possibly find a reason to want to bite me. You know what I hate ten times more that spiders?
FREAKING WASPS.
Anything with a stinger horrifies me, as while spiders can crawl up walls and what not, they're at least usually confined to one surface. Wasps, Bees and Hornets can fly at you! They serve no purpose other than to ruin life for everyone else!

To me, the more legs (includes tentacles) something has the more frightening it is. Like to me, humans are pretty unscary, dogs and other casual animals aren't scary most of the time, ants and most insects are mildly annoying, spiders scare the shit out of me, centipedes make me squeal like a schoolgirl, and if I ever saw a millipede...
...I'd probably sh*t myself.

The images in this helpful Cracked article should help those foolish enough not to fear spiders to see sense.
Hope you weren't planning on sleeping tonight...

The largest spider around where I live grows a leg span of about four and a half inches. It's harmless. It's considerably smaller cousin is the one you have to worry about.

I will grant you that the bigger ones are creepier. With those giant sized fangs they have, and their ability to run at quite shocking speeds when you see it for the first time.

For me it's how they move. It's uncanny, and feels too fast for their size. You get a comfortable distant from a spider, you see it walk, and HOLYSHITIWOULDN'THAVETIMETOKILLITIFITRANFORME!

The fact that they all have poisonous bites (even if they can't use them on humans) and some of them are able to hunt birds does rather add to their hideousness.

well aaaaactualy the smaller the more poisenous they get. The tarantualas poison for instance wouldn't be worse than say that of a bee. Which means its bite is neglectable unless you get a whole swarm of them covering you and biting everywhere (try imagening that without breeding a nightmare or two). The black widow however is but a fraction of its size but in one bit could easily drop a fullgrown human.

I have my computer in my room and I mostly play my games late at night and...lets just say that feeling something crawling up your leg, arm, shirt or anywhere else on your body will forcibly release your bowels into whatever pants you happen to be wearing. If they aren't on me I also have spiders occasionally climb up the side of the wall to my right or sit by my mouse hand or on the keyboard, lucky for me I can usually spot them in my peripheral vision. I honestly think its the fear of not knowing what they're gonna do to me if I unknowingly get too close to them. From what I know, spiders usually if not always bite humans out of fear. I also found out that where I'm from has teeny tiny spiders(Brown Recluse), which happen to be extremely poisonous (We had a family member get bit by one and we researched its squished remains on the interwebs), also doesn't really sit well with me. When we researched the BR we found out that on some rare occasions people have died from getting bit (or have serious complications) and that most people negate practically all of the poison and it just blows over like its just a run-of-the-mill bad spider bite, which luckily happened to be the latter. It's a well founded fear over our entire existence to keep the human species alive and out of danger.

Not... exactly. The Brazilian wandering spider is considered to be the most venomous spider there is, and it has a leg span of 15 CM. The Huntsman have a leg span of 30 cm, and have a bite painful enough to cause vomiting. The venom of the eastern tarantula can kill a cat in half an hour, and it's about the size of a mans hand. Don't even get me started on the Goliath Bird Eating Spider.

I'm afraid you're incorrect; You're confusing daddy long legs with the crane fly. Worry not, it is a common mistake.

Hm. Could have sworn Daddy Long Legs was a nick name for crane flies. Oh well.
Also, the Daddy Long Legs in that picture is terrifying. God that thing is weird.

Tarantulas make good pets. Brown Recluses can go die in a fire though. Spiders in general aren't scary, but their webs are hard to see at night sometimes and make for a bad surprise.

Honestly, It comes down to the legs. I'm perfectly satisfied when things have two legs. I can learn to love things with four. I'm even willing to begrudgingly accept the existence of things with six legs. But that is where I draw the line. Of all the animals I have an irrational fear of, they all have one thing in common: too damn many legs.

Crabs? More like water spiders.
Lobsters? um. Also like water spiders?
Scorpions? What, eight legs wasn't bad enough? You had to add a pair of claws and a tail?!
Octopus? Sure they aren't legs. That's just what an octopus would want you to think.
Ticks? They only want my blood because they have too god damn many legs.
Millipedes? Seriously, what nightmare realm decided to just add legs until you ran out of freakishly long body?

I freaking love spiders. Also, I don't know if anyone else has said this yet, most of the deadly spiders aren't that big. The big ones, tarantulas, have a painful bite and it can have some nasty effects, but there have been almost no reported human fatalities due to a tarantula bite.

EDIT: @Eclectic Dreck: Actually, an octopus does only have two legs, tentacles it uses for 'walking'.
