I don't enjoy spoilers, because they ruin the whole experience if you haven't played the said game yet and especially if it is a story driven one.

I don't own a PS3 and will never probably get the chance to play Heavy Rain for example and read the spoiler and I really didn't expect that. And I can say that knowing that basicly ruined the whole point for me to even buy the game if I ever had the chance.

Yep,spoilers are that bad.

Meh, I can still watch DBZ knowing that
Gohan kills Cell.
I watched...let's see, a little bit of the Cell saga when I was a kid
(from Semi-perfect Cell's upgrade to right after Cell destroys his own arena)
, then I watched GT, then I read a hell of a lot of stuff on a dragon ball wiki, so I've got a hell of a lot of spoilers. Doesn't make it any less fun.

Tell you what's really annoying, though; Mr. Satan. Dude needs to shut the f*** up. He wasn't all that annoying in GT, but in the Cell Saga, him and his crew just kill the momentum. Is he less annoying in the dub or no?

I personally don't mind spoilers. For me, they just make me all the more excited to read or watch something. Hell, sometimes I demand spoilers.

But I know that's not the same for everybody. Really, it's probably safest to ask and then say.

Personally, I like spoilers. It doesn't bother me at all, and I really don't understand why.
Oh well.

What drives me nuts worse than spoilers are my friends.

One spoils things, and then blames me for not getting up to that point and tries to defend himself FURTHER spoiling things while everyone else is screaming at him to shut up.

Two of my other friends are spoiler machineguns, they just keep spoiling stuff funny enough on accident! Because they're too busy ranting to hear me say STOP I DIDNT GET THERE YET!

Spoilers take away from the experience. Part of the media is wondering what will happen next and how the story unfolds. A well written story is to draw you in (immerse, if you will) and have the story unfold around you. In some stories you can share in the characters reactions which really adds a dimension to the story.

I've had a number of things spoiled for throughout my life...

Fight Club twist, .

What's your personal opinion on how bad a spoiler truly is?
Arg! This! People spoiling Fight Club for new time readers (or viewers) is the worst! The novel (or movie) is great the second time, but finding out of a reader (Or viewer) sees is coming without the spoiler, just from the text (film) is always interesting.

Yeah, they are called spoilers for a reason - they spoil it for you! I love twists and puzzles or whatever the interesting thing is that shouldn't be leaked.

Certain spoilers have ruined the excitement of things before like Harry Potter Book 6 (a series i am a massive fan of) or Marly and Me (which i have never seen but had the ending ruined).

There is a statute of limitations on spoilers though. I mean I would be mad if somebody told me how a movie I wanted to see (that came out recently, like still in theaters) ended. But I'd have to accept it if the movie has been out for (my personal spoiler time expires after) more than 8-9 months. Also, if the movie is iconic enough, all bets are off with spoilers. In short (as XKCD put it) Snape kills Trinity with Rosebud (sorry I had to say it and putting it in spoiler brackets would be hypocritical). I also create exemptions for games I will in all likelihood never play (like games for the PS3). I ask my friends if they want spoilers if the topic comes up.

The movie Up.
If I had known that
Carl was a widower and the start of the film would be a flashback of the happiest and saddest moments of his life with his wife Ellie eventuating in her death.
It just wouldn't have been the same.

I would have still enjoyed it, but it wouldn't have had as profound an effect on me as it did.
In saying that I'm a little choked up thinking about it.

ugh. I guessed the ending to that film about a minute in. The rest just seemed so boring as I was just waiting for them to do the big reveal - everything else just felt like padding.
Agreed, Shutter Island was probably Scorcese's weakest film.

OT: The ending of Citizen Kane was spoiled because of an episode of Family Guy. I just can't enjoy that movie because I knew the ending the entire time. Fuck you, Seth McFarlane.

Hold on. Family Guy spoiled Citizen Kane for you? I'm sorry, but the statute of limitations expired long ago for that film.

Sometimes they are. I don't mind when something is spoiled for me though, as long as the whole story doesn't lead up to that.

It kills the whole thing. You then see all the little hints and then go I saw it coming anyway. Which you wouldn't have spotted.

I feel for you man, I really do, I had the end to Persona 3 spoiled for me in a similar way, not to mention a good deal of other games, films, anime and books, It sucks when people don't give you a fair warning.

As for Heavy Rain, I can't say wether you'd have thought it a masterpiece, as it has definate flaws, but it certainly would have helped your enjoyment of the game had you not known before hand, I didn't get that one spoiled for me as I got it on release day, it just loses something if you know in advance.
