I must ask, was it an IQ test online? Because they are not so accurate. I did one and had an IQ of 145. I think mine should only be about 130. The ones online are also not valid/real. Alot of the times they are rip offs.

I hope not, I'm 13 and I can outwit my mum, who is quite a clever lady. I took an I.Q test and it came out 104, that's one less than Ronald Reagan. I voted for the lazy option though, since every boy from 20 years ago owned swiss army knives and climbed trees for fun.
It was the MENSA one.

No, they're just ignorant.
Ignorant enough to think they look 'cool' if they tuck their trousers into their socks and wear an expression as if they've just been hit in the face by a frying pan.

Depends on what you define as children of this generation - being seventeen myself I obviously resent the idea that I'm an idiot :p.
I think it has a lot to do with your general education and upbringing more than your generation - there are still plenty of people in their 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s and above who are just as clueless as many teenagers about "stuff that does matter".

Every generation has its (to be politically correct) slightly lower than average intelligence people. Look at George Bush. Are you saying we should judge the intelligence of an individual based on how many times this planet had gone around the sun when they were born? (Uber generalisation to make point) Everyone who was born into the same arbitrarily designated generation as the big W are all about as fit to run a country as my smelly left shoe... really should investigate fumigating that at some point(my shoe, not the Bush generation)...

Edit: I am only sixteen but can write good argumentative essays. My talents in other areas are sometimes lackluster though, but don't mistake that for a lack of intelligence.
If you want to read my latest essay, send me a PM and I will send you a copy back.

Okay, This happened five minutes ago.

I was searching through the forums on here and my 12-yr-old younger brother was on the floor, on his laptop, playing Halo. As he was closing it up, because we're about to go out and get some food, he asked me... and I'm not making this shit up...

'Micah(my real name), does "H" come before "O"?'

I just sat there and looked at him for a second. I said: "Uh.. Yeah."
Then he said: "No, not necessarily."
And then I had to say the alphabet for him and emphasize 'H' and 'O' as I said them.. and then he said "Oh yeah, duh. I just didn't want to say the alphabet."

It astonished me enough to post about it here... And My little brother is 'smart' He's even in classes in grade levels higher than he is.(He's in 6th grade and takes 7th and 8th grade classes)

I ask you Escapists... what has happened, and do you have any similar stories to tell?
Unless your bro was joking, he has to have some kind of problem. I mean come on, you dont forget the alphabet!

But to answer your question, as a kid, I dont think were getting dumber.Sure we do stupid things, but when any generation was a kid they probaly did something that seemed stupid. We arent dumber and we arent neccesarily lazy. Using things like google and wikipedia to gain knowledge on a subject we are interested in isnt laziness, it is common sense. Why wouldn't we use something to help us learn easier?

Look at einstien, he used to be a complete retard as a kid, and now we know him as one of the greatest minds to have ever lived.
