No, they're just ignorant.

Depends on what you define as children of this generation - being seventeen myself I obviously resent the idea that I'm an idiot

I think it has a lot to do with your general education and upbringing more than your generation - there are still plenty of people in their 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s and above who are just as clueless as many teenagers about "stuff that does matter".

Every generation has its (to be politically correct) slightly lower than average intelligence people. Look at George Bush. Are you saying we should judge the intelligence of an individual based on how many times this planet had gone around the sun when they were born? (Uber generalisation to make point) Everyone who was born into the same arbitrarily designated generation as the big W are all about as fit to run a country as my smelly left shoe... really should investigate fumigating that at some point(my shoe, not the Bush generation)...
Edit: I am only sixteen but can write good argumentative essays. My talents in other areas are sometimes lackluster though, but don't mistake that for a lack of intelligence.

But to answer your question, as a kid, I dont think were getting dumber.Sure we do stupid things, but when any generation was a kid they probaly did something that seemed stupid. We arent dumber and we arent neccesarily lazy. Using things like google and wikipedia to gain knowledge on a subject we are interested in isnt laziness, it is common sense.Why wouldn't we use something to help us learn easier?
Look at einstien, he used to be a complete retard as a kid, and now we know him as one of the greatest minds to have ever lived.
