I was browsing around one night a while ago and found a site that talked about video games being banned because of the way kids act.
I ask what is your take on this?

If kids are acting strange, it isn't because of videogames. The average australian gamer is 27 years old. If videogames were to blame for behavioral changes, then wouldn't young adults be acting oddly, too?

lol, wut

No, they are not. Gaming is still a niche hobby for one. Two, parents who ***** about their kids playing GTA Number Whatever need to be quiet. You buy a game for your kid, you deal. Don't give me excuses either. You should take interest in what your kids play or just don't buy them games. I've been a gamer since literally before I can remember (My first words might have been the Konami Code for all I know) and I know that it's not hard to watch what your kid is playing. My single working mother managed it for my entire childhood and most of my teenage years before deciding I was old enough to handle higher ratings.

Is society drifting towards a Roman-like fascination with obscenity? Yes. But you can't pin that on gaming. That's media in general. Sure, a bunch of young adults enjoy their flash bang violence in games, but even more like torture porn films.

My two cents.

Really Long Answer: No, people ruin society. Nothing has anything else to do with it than human stupidity. Saying otherwise is just pointing fingers so we don't have to admit that we fucked up all by ourselves, and thus take responsibility for our own actions.

Brilliant analysis of all the relevant perspectives and viewpoints, there
The sarcasm burns me :(

What more is there to say? Why would video games be the downfall of humanity anymore than:
-Television
-Rock and Roll
-Alcohol
?

At the moment, I can only assume video games are being scapegoated. Until I see some sort of study proving otherwise, my initial statements stand.

Video Games have been proven to improve how children act more than they harm.

The REAL downfall of society...is society. All our troubles come from mass hysteria, if you think about it. In order to not sound like a complete cynic, I wont write a massive dissertation on the subject...Im already doing that for my Senior Project. :p

Don't forget books! And dancing! And movies! And, well, shucks, everything that is popular in today's society (except religion of course, that's always been accepted).

Society always points the finger and screams "Hell-bringer!" to everything new. It'll pass over, and video games will become accepted when my generation gets into power (or thereabouts).

The scary thing is that my generation is destined to call some other form of entertainment as evil when we reach power... great...

I dunno about that. I do believe very violent/obscene games do affect the person playing it. But then again, so do R-rated movies and the sort of TV shows you find on HBO and Showtime. Hence why wiser portions of society shield their children from that sort of thing until they are older and more mature.

Actually, TurkishChocolate's statement pretty much sums up what I was thinking.

If there's an M on the box, it's there for a good fucking reason. Mom and dads of the world, M STANDS FOR MATURE! Get that into yer thick, lazy-to-research-topic heads!
