And whether that is a bonus for society or a downfall?

Society has been saying stuff like this for generations.
-Television
-Rock and Roll
-Alcohol
-Other things I don't remember

It's Video games' turn.
You forgot Jazz and comic books
I was gonna say thaaaaat! oh well... blaming games for the way kids act is nothing but ridiculous scapegoating, once again my disdain for people unwilling to blame poor parenting gets to present itself, either mommy or daddy needs to stay home with junior to RAISE him. Children are not pets, they need more than just food and cleaning up after, they need to be taught manners and respect and boundaries. and because niether mommy or daddy see junior more than 3 hours a week then he isn't getting what he deserves. that is why children are messed up today, but society is falling because of things like collapsing infrastructure, overly complicated and corrupt government, overpopulation, and a whole other myriad of things i don't feel like typing about... OH AND APATHY!

And don't forget the interwebs.
What are you crazy? There are paedophiles on the interwebs. Hundreds of them perched, watching your IP address waiting for your young child to log on. Always watching you.

Always.

I don't know enough about parenting techniques outside of my own family so I couldn't say. I'm fairly certain having TV/Games/Internet(fitted with AntiPaedophileSprayDeluxe) babysit your child probably isn't the best plan in the world, but I'm not a parent so I'm not really in a good position to decide.

Plus there's the whole 'unique' humans thing...some kids might be better brought up on games. I dunno. In general I think it's a bad idea, but hey, whatever floats their boat. It's their kid they're ruining for life, hope they can live with themselves knowing that their crotchfruit is incapable of supporting themselves in life.

Well if it makes anyone feel better, some children that play video games will have improved imaginations.

Do you want to know the real reason why people want video games banned? Bad Parenting. Period. Parents that do their job as parents horribly and need to find a scapegoat to make themselves look better. They just can't accept the fact the Jimmy does drugs, drinks alcohol and is violent in situations that don't call for it. They need a reason to why he does these things. I mean come on, look at the people in this forum. Sure, some of you may be freaks but the good majority of you seem to of been raised good and look at that, no "yes"s on the poll.

Search youtube for Jack Thompson, and then realize why gamers are so happy that he recently resigned (i believe) from law. Aside from all of the hate videos produced by an entire generation of gamers, you'll see some interesting videos (if you can find them) about how he proclaims any and every issue with society and links it to videogames... He even did so with the shootings at Virginia Tech before they even knew anything about the killer.

Btw, videogames did raise me. My uncle used to bribe me with Mario to finish my homework when I was little, and needless to say I did every last math problem. I honestly don't think I've contributed much to the downfall of society yet besides mindlessly posting my opinions and occasionally fighting others' opinions on this site.

1. Society needs a downfall
2. you are asking this on a game forum
3. Society blame videogames> forum users blame bad parenting> bad parenting is caused by terrible education

Society was on a downward spiral since it began. It just levels out somewhat every century or so.

The problems you hear about to do with video games aren't because of videogames, its a lack of parenting skill, or a lack of interest in their childs well being. The only reason some kids can be adversely affected by Video games is if they are not mature enough to handle it, in which case, the games are rated as such, and it SHOULD be the parents responsibility to make sure they're child doesn't play that. The other case of taking it badly would be if the child has a bad sense of reality, or what is good and bad, and once again, that falls under the responsibilities of the parents to teach their children such values.

Its a big game of use video games as a scapegoat for bad parenting.
