Only the ones who clearly never took a look at the format of the forums before posting. *shrug* People here aren't mean to all new people if they make an effort.

i dislike how a lot of people are discriminated against because of their post-count, not how long they have joined, some people like PurpleRain have been on here since the beggining and he doesn't have 10,000, whereas MaxTheReaper has been here almost a year and he already has 10,000. I hope someone knows what im rambling on about.

We can be rather harsh, but after getting smacked down by the mods and other members enough, the newcomers start to get the point and rules. So, I suppose we're not too mean to the newbies, just enough to make them understand the rules around here.

We do it cause we love th... Okay, the real reason: We want them to read the rules instead of coming to this forum thinking they can write about whatever they want without searching the forums cause they think that it's a waste of time. You know what also is a waste of time? Replying to an overdone thread (not this one of course).

I think The Escapist is one of the better forums on the internet when it comes to balancing being nice to newcomers and making sure they adhere to the rules.

I've been lurking here since I saw Yahtzee's reviews on X Play last year. I only signed on and started to post after I had gotten a feel for the place. For the most part people are really nice here. Those that deserve to be disciplined receive it. I haven't really seen moderators going ban hammer crazy or take advantage of their power.

Some posters do go a little crazy with telling people to use the search function, but I mean, who wants to resurrect a thread that's over six months old? Plus, those that jumped on the poster for not using the search feature would be the same ones to complain that they posted in a really old thread.

Overall, people here are cool in my books. I've posted more here in a short time than I ever had at any other forum. The threads are usually interesting here, and most poters do offer something either funny or informative.

I just joined and I haven't had any meanness thrown my way. In fact, I made a friend! I was very surprised! And happy! But, yeah, you guys don't seem mean...

Then again, I'm very careful with what I say and I haven't been here long at all.

I avoided starting threads until I had an idea what was wanted and what would attract annoyance XD

I've only made 2 to this day :p

And I got no welcome, I sort of sidled into the Escapist un-noticed. Like a Ninja.

Wow, are you my twin? I have only 2 topics and I was never greeted either. We must both be ninjas...

And I don't think we are mean to newcomers, just... strict.

I only ever criticise newbies if they deserve to be criticised because they've broken the rules, etc - if they apologise then I also accept this. If a newbie is just saying "hi, nice to meet you all!" along with a topic, then I'll gladly welcome them and send them the official welcome message (if no one else has done so already).

Thats not to say I don't enjoy the odd noob-purging any less than any other good man, of course.

Personally, i dont think the community is mean to new comers, considering I was one only a couple of months ago. I think we all just get annoyed at people, most of which are newcomers, whom post stupid thread rants.

I don't care if a person's new to a forum. Frankly it doesn't matter if they are or not. As long as they don't do something completely and utterly retarded I think all is well.

It's called love with a dash of hate.

EDIT:You're poll is broken because it has the word PETA in it. (I'm sorry mods. I really do have no love for those guys).

Sure we're mean, but c'mon, they're scum! :)

I kid. Yes people are zealous, perhaps overly so in chasing up issues of message board netiquette niceties.
