I'm an old Escapist. That doesn't mean that there is anything specific about myself, I'm not deserving of respect and admiration for this fact, I'm just somebody who has been here for over 1.5 years. How do you make yourself look better on a forum? By making everyone else looks worse? How do you make others look worse. One simple word, 'Reported'. Tell someone that you've reported them and you look like you're better than them, that their posts are not good enough for the forum and that they should leave. Tell them that a topic has been done before achieves the same effect. "Your thread is sooo last month" makes them look like poor posters.
The only people who lay down and take this abuse are the newcomers. You are not going to be able to tell an Old Escapist that he/she is a bad poster because nobody is going to believe you. You might be able to get away with calling some 'everyone else's' bad posters but there is always the chance they might fight back and make you look like a fool. No, the only people who you can be 'mean' too are the newcomers.
I don't see many Older Escapists being mean to newcomers though. I think there has been some poor communication and has left a large number of people thinking that everyone who joined before say (as an example) June 2008 hates everyone who has joined after that. Some people think that it has always been standard practice to hate against the new guys, it never was. You're not making anyone who joined a long time ago think better of you when you tell people to use the search bar.
Basically, people are mean to newcomers because they think that the top end posters do the same. That's just my little theory on the matter.
As for the actual question of this thread, fuck yes. Haven't you been paying attention?
You could actually replace 'Old' with 'Cool'. It is the cool Escapists who have the most influence. Most 'cool' people are in the 'everyone else' bracket in my opinion, which makes everything interesting. They see someone who they respect call out a newcomer and do the same thing themselves. I've seen people I would call newcomers complaining about the newcomers, showing to me that there is more and more push to become 'cool'. With teh rising incidents of circle jerks I think we are going to see more and more people trying to make themselves look better.

I generally just tell him/her whats wrong, then, if im the first/second poster on the thread, I would warn them to edit it before the assholes arrived
I still consider myself a new member, and I was never treated badly.
