I'm glad no one has chosen "pies" just for the luhlz.
OT: I feel like... dogs actually like you, and cats just hate you without question. In my case, anyway. Cats hate me...
I like them both very much but found in the past that cat ownership was more suited to lifestyle. I'm not a fan of dogs being left alone for long periods of time (not so bad when they have a friend, but not ideal) whereas my cats adjusted themselves to my working day and would happily kip while I was out and cuddle and have attention when I was home.
I tend to find that people who don't really get cats only know them from visiting someone else's and finding them to be aloof. You just have to treat them more like a person who needs personal space as much as affection or play. Dog people want the relationship to be clear and on the surface, but I admire cats much more for their depth.
Though to be fair, there are cats that don't make good pets too.
But dogs are definitely at the top of my list when considering what to get for a pet. They're the most active of pets to have. Love playing with dogs. They're so energetic and that constant level of energy no matter how you feel and how they're up for ANYTHING is just second to none.
Cats are good for when you're stressed out and want to just sit for awhile.
Actually I don't like either cats nor dogs. I really prefer bats. They're adorable, they fly, and they vary in appearance more than dogs do. Plus I've worked with wounded bats since I was in elementary school and many of them have such a sweet temperament. It makes me sad that so many people just want to kill them all the time. My second favorite animal would have to be sugar gliders. Just because they're so ridiculously cute.
