It has come to my attention in a recent thread: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/9.265326-Strange-In-Game-Habits-Compulsions?page=6#10091100 that many people, like myself, compulsively reload, even when it's a bad time to do so. I can't count how many times I've been killed because of this. So I was wondering just how many of us do this.

It also makes me really annoyed when watching someone play who never manually reloads, but maybe that's just me.

Every time I kill an enemy, if I get a split second I'll attempt a reload. I often get caught in the act and it costs my life.

I figure it makes more sense to take a chance on a reload than guarantee death by running around empty. I've had to train myself to not reload if I've got ammo and somebody's already shooting at me though.

It's very fun to take advantage of compulsive reloaders.

Fun tip: Next time you're shot from behind, go behind cover and then immediately come out. Chances are you'll catch them in a really stupid reload.

every damn kill...ill run away from large groups just to reload after i kill one. i refuse to ever be caught with a low clip in a fight and die from auto-reloads. same way i hit F5 after every fight...

Yep. I'm always obsessed with having a full magazine, and I take every opportunity to reload "just in case." It has led to my death on several occasions.

Yes, I'm a compulsive reloader and it's a real problem. For some reason I just can't get over not having a full clip. I'm nowhere near that OCD in real life but when it comes to FPS I can't help myself. I just finished playing a few hours worth of BFBC2 and about a third of my deaths were a result of compulsive reloading.

since its rather easy to know where enemies are in say CoD i reload when i know its safe which is often...

my usual routine is reloading after every 1-2 kills unless i feel there is danger.

I am a compulsive reloader. It gets me killed less often than it saves my life.

It drives me insane to see somebody walk around with 5 rounds left in a clip. Then they whine when they get shot down when they have to reload two seconds into a firefight.

I've managed to control myself more or less to the point where I'm not mashing the reload button after *every* kill if I know there's more than one enemy around.

Socom Confrontation has this feature that if you fire during your reload, you cancel the reload and can then protect your self at the cost of a botched reload. So I often reload when I feel safe but then defend myself if someone jumps me while reloading. When I play a different game I sometimes think that the same rules applied, but instead I get caught with my pants down every single time...

Absolutely. I'll reload a machine gun after firing a single burst if I can. In games like Mercenaries where you lose the whole magazine whenever you reload I'll run out of ammo constantly unless I pay attention to my reloading.

If there's one guy I reload after killing him, but if there's more then one I try to resist until they're all dead.

Depends on the situation and the gun I'm using. If there's another enemy nearby and I have a decent amount of rounds left, I wait until it's safe, and if the weapon I'm using has a long reload time I wait until a good break. Otherwise, all the time.

Depends...I sometimes prefer to keep using a half full magazine if I don't expect immediate serious trouble for a bit, rather than keep reloading and get stuck with a bunch of half full magazines.

I tend to reload before attacking groups of enemies, of course, and when using a weapon like a shotgun, where you load individual rounds, not magazines, I always try to keep fully loaded.

I reload when it seems like a good time.

Sure, I've died from being shot while reloading, but better to die a few times than to be always wounding your enemy and not killing because you run out of bullets a half a second into shooting.

First off, thanks for the link!

Second, I've got the opposite problem. I'll be using the XS-2 Ultimax shotgun in Saints Row 2, then get killed by a mob of mooks because I ran out of ammo in the clip.
