I am usually, but Im also compulsive when it comes to ammo counts. It often has to match how many rounds in the mag to how many "Mags" my ammo count holds. Games that have the By mag, not by bullet system are a godsend to me.

I avoid reloading until it's necessary or I've got cover, that came from way, way back with splitscreen Goldeneye. If you have cover and you have a general idea of where they are, then it's safe, if you get caught reloading while on the run you're fucked.
Likewise. Ah, those were the days.

I admittedly am also guilty of this. Sometimes I reload after each kill regardless of if there is a whole group of enemies firing at me.

It hasn't led to a great deal of deaths but it has caused numerous near-misses XD

Maybe it's because I'm a JRPG guy, but the few times that I have played an FPS, I generally forget that there is a reload button.

Yes. No such thing as a half or empty clip when i play.

Even if just shoot 2 or 5 shoots I need to reload...Why can't I stop!?

this has cost me a LOT of kills in L4D2. it's exaggerated because my favorite weapon, the Magnum, is pretty powerful, but only has an 8-shot cartridge and reloads faster if it isn't completely empty, so I keep forgetting to count off my shots to make sure i can actually spare it.

It's very unrealistic, since I should be losing all those bullets if I keep tossing the clips away, but I reload after pretty much every shot or frag.

Not at all.

Playing tactical shooters like Rainbow Six, SWAT 4 and Operation Flashpoint forces you to avoid that compulsion. In Operation Flashpoint, for instance, reloading takes a bit over two seconds and you can't move while doing so. Furthermore, if you have a few rounds left in a magazine and reload, that mostly empty mag goes back in your inventory to be used once you're out of full ones, so compulsive reloaders would end up with a bunch of progressively more empty magazines until they've got several with only a few bullets left in each one.

In traditional FPS games I reload during pauses whenever possible, and usually only change magazines when I'm down to less than a third. I do constantly top up when using most shotguns, though, because it makes a lot more sense that way.

Usually the first thing I do when I aquire a new weapon is fire off a round or two to sample the reload animation. I will compulsively reload after every kill if it's safe to do so. In long stretches of walking I also tend to fire, reload, fire, reload, just to pass the time...

Here's a related question, who else goes around corners by putting their back to the wall, then swirling the gun up and around, SWAT-style?

Oh definitely. And I always get frustrated at watching other people play when they don't reload.

"Look, you an an opportunity to reload there! You might need that full mag when you turn that corner and there's like 5 dudes there! Cmon!"

I do it all the time. Sometimes even when there's another enemy who I know can see me. Thank God Call of Duty has the slight of hand perk (makes you reload and look down the sights faster).

Yes I do, and it makes me very bad at Alien Swarm or other games where you waste what's left of the clip.

Yes, although I prefer to switch weapons if I expend a clip mid-fight, rather than risk a reload.

Back in the day before online play was popular (or readily available), it was fun to troll compulsive re-loaders during split screen play. They would be more concerned that I would be running around the map with 28/30 bullets in a gun then anything else; making them easier kills.

As soon as I would respawn or reload, I would fire off 2 rounds and head off - knowingly they would be fixed on that ammo count 28/30.. fidgeting uncomfortably before finally throwing the controller across the room yelling "FARKING RELOAD ALREADY!!"

Even when it came to the bigger MG weapons - 148/150 had the same reaction.

For the most part, I'll reload once i'm at 2/3 or less - if the situation feels safe. I have run around with only 1/4 of ammo left before finally risking reloading because I knew somebody was nearby - and it would only take a head shot to kill, or be caught reloading to be killed.

Yep. After every firefight I have to reload just to prepare for the next firefight. Though I did build the habit myself....
