Dogs. I hate cats. They're ass holes most of the time. Dogs help hunt, detect cancer, aid the blind and disabled, protect you and are loyal as all hell.

Cats act like they're the boss. They only come to you for food.

Dogs. I don't understand why cat people say "dogs are too much maintenance" or "they come to me when they want attention and I can send it on it's way whenever I want". That just smacks of saying "I only want a pet some of the time", which I don't understand. My dogs make me feel loved, and I have no problem showing it back.

Every time I walk in the door, even if I was gone 10 minutes, my dog runs up to me like I've been gone a week and she never thought she'd see me again. All that effort required to maintain a dog is worth it for that reason.

The way cat people talk about dogs barking, I'd hate to think what kind of parents they might be if some noise irritates them that much that they don't want that thing anymore.

Cats! Mine is currently behind the monitor, resting her head on top of it and staring at me...She's lovely.

Dogs are cool too. But we just like cats in my household.

There's a reason why dogs are considered man's best friend.

Ever heard of a seeing eye cat? Sheep cat? Drug sniffing cat? Police cat? Rescue cat?
Dogs are more loyal and their love is unconditional.

I'm not saying that cats are bad pets, but they're inferior to dogs in pretty much every aspect that matters. Dogs were bred to be the best companions.

Sorry, had to be done.

I prefer cats as they just mind their own business if I mind mine.

My only major issue I have with dogs as an owner is that they can be exceptionally needy. Of course this depends on the breed of dog and how well you train it, but they still require a lot of your attention before they become 'mans best friend'.

Cats on the other hand, you just let them loose, feed them and clean up after them every so often and you're pretty much set. They practically train themselves. You just need to hope that it has a half decent personality. Otherwise, you're pretty much screwed.
Isn't that really what having a pet is about though? Something that craves your love and attention?

If I wanted something that would only give me the time of day when it wanted something, I'd buy a teenager.
Haha! Or a boss?

I am definately a dog person too! They are a far more polite pet as well normally, and have such personality... A dog never struts about looking snobbish, and acting like you are inferior to it!

Also, I don't trust anything with those types of sneaking skills!! The same reason I prefer pirates to ninjas... sneaky isn't trustworthy!

I've had eight dogs, four cats, two hamsters, one Guinea Pig, ten fish, and two frogs - over my life-time. Asking which one is BETTER, has never made sense to me. Just seems like the apples and oranges argument. It would probably depend completely on your own personality.

Either way, my personal experiences with dogs have been way better than with cats. And I mean WAY better. It would be hard to imagine my life without my three lovelies.

I'm a massive cat person. I have two and love them to pieces, especially the girl. She's unbelievably cuddly and such a lap cat. They're both pretty easy to look after. We've been looking after a dog for a few months whilst my dad's fiancée's daughter gets settled into her new place and she'll take her back, and while she's fairly sweet, she needs CONSTANT attention, she whines and barks if she doesn't get it and just won't settle down. I've been around a few dogs that act a little differently, but ultimately dogs aren't for me. Dogs are akin to children for me, great for a little while but unfortunately I can't give them all the attention they need and just don't have the mental capacity to look after one. Hence why I'm not having children, either.

Ive always been a dog person. Our family always had them around as pets and Ive grown used to having them around in the house. They are noisy sure, but they are also the most reliable burglar alarm in the world and can be ferocious when they need to be. Just more dependable pets in my opinion.

I reject your steriotype. I love Dogs and Cats. I own two cats, and no dogs, but I love 'em.
But I like dogs too, don't own any because they tend to be harder to look after (Walks, worse to leave them alone, they get worried apparently). But yeah. Both. I like both.

Rats, hamsters and assorted rodents. We don't need no stinkin' cats or dogs.
This.

Both cats and dogs are high maintenance and messy.
What?
Okay, dogs, yes. Most dogs are messy and high maintenance, but cats???!??!
Cats are just about the most self-sufficient, neat and orderly creature that people keep as pets....

They don't eat the furniture, they don't crap in the house, they clean themselves, they can be let outside and you can rely on them to find their own way back... Even if you can't let them out, they can very easily and almost effortlessly be trained to use a litterbox and they can keep themselves endlessly occupied indoors.
The only issues you might have with cats is them clawing the furniture, which is easily fixed by declawing them, or cat hair getting all over stuff if you happen to have a cat who sheds a ton. ....but even the cat hair often isn't a problem since cats constantly clean themselves and just make it into an easily handled hairball....and my cats have always done that outside too.
Well compared to my rats, cats are high maintenance and messy. You said it yourself with hair everywhere and ruined furniture. And declawing a cat is wrong IMO, but that's another discussion.

To that point, I've never had a declawed cat, and I've also never had a cat we couldn't easily get to stop clawing the furniture. That's more of a theoretical problem with a fairly simple permanent solution.

But yea, I'm gonna have to disagree. I've had a couple mice. Dealing with the cage and all that stuff is actually waaaaaaaaaaaay more work than any of the cats I've ever had. (...well, except my current old calico who started peeing in random places because she's like 18 years old and her kidneys are messed up, but that's an age problem, not a cat problem.)

Unless mice are somehow vastly higher maintenance than rats, you should probably reevaluate the high-maintenanceness of cats.

I'd say the only place rats have a quantifiable edge as a pet is in the cost to feed them.

Take the biggest dog in the world, a Saint Bernard. Pit him against the biggest feline in the world, a Bengal Tiger. See who wins. The giant slobbering hairy mess, or the 8 foot long 350 cat with 3 inch razor sharp blades for fingers? And also a bite that has enough strength to crush steel.

Cats rule, dogs drool.

Plus, my cat has many uses that a dog would be unable to do. It keeps the rodents out of my hotel, it rides on my shoulder though the place sometimes, and it doesn't need to be cleaned once a month. Also, cats are far more intelligent than dogs.

A dog looks around itself and says; my owner gives me a warm place to stay, loves me, feeds me, and makes sure I am happy, they must me a God.

A cat looks around itself and say, this human feeds me, pets me, loves me, gives me shelter, I must be a God.
Tigers are solitary creatures, they need to be like that in order to survive.

Dogs are pack animals, and a pack could easily kill a Bengal tiger.

I have a Weimaraner, a dog bred for hunting and killing bears in packs.
So you're saying that a pack of wolves could defeat a single tiger? I MIGHT believe that if I hadn't seen a adult moose beat the shit out of a wolf pack in Alaska, and an adult moose is pretty close to a tiger on the scale of 1 - Dangerous. That being said, a pack of tigers would ***** slap a single dog. See what I did there?

Cats are more relaxed and lower maintenance, but dogs are more affectionate and fun. I quite enjoy both to be honest.

But my favorite must be the mudskipper.

I mean, a fish that carries around water to breath when it's on land. What's not to love?!
So, I herd you liek Mudkips....

Sorry, no one else had done it yet. Had to be done.

Dogs are better, but people are forgetting that's cats do actually have a purpose. Pest control. Cats kill vermin and their smell repels the rats and mice.

Now you're just being silly :D

Lions hunt in packs because they can't take down the sort of prey they hunt on their own. They're too quick and strong.

The same with dogs and the same with early man. We hunted mammoths, something that would have been impossible for an individual.

I am a cat person since i was practically raised with my feline friends

plus the fact that dogs can get overly jealous of someone else getting more attention, for example a baby getting more love and attention then the said dogs try to hurt said baby and end up being thrown back whence they came, so in short bad experiences at an early age.

I saw a documentary about domesticating foxes once...
...you know like how dogs were domesticated from wolves
I would probably be a fox person...

...but if I had to choose between cats and dogs...I would say dogs
