There's a reason why dogs are considered man's best friend.

Ever heard of a seeing eye cat? Sheep cat? Drug sniffing cat? Police cat? Rescue cat?
Dogs are more loyal and their love is unconditional.

I'm not saying that cats are bad pets, but they're inferior to dogs in pretty much every aspect that matters. Dogs were bred to be the best companions.
See, the difference for me is that cats are cool. A dog will blindly obey most of the time (depending on the dog of course), a cat will only obey if it feels like it. They're like lazy gamers, except they're cats... And not gamers.

I'm a dog person, I have two rescued dogs at the moment. But damn you, You put Deathclaw as an option and I couldn't pass that up.

I'm more of a cat person. I have three of them right now and they're adorable. My mom has a dog though, so I'm sort of forced to be a dog person too. From my experience dogs have to be trained well, otherwise they're more of a bother than anything else. Cats are relaxed and don't require that much care, but they can be just as bad as poorly trained dogs, especially if there's many of them.

Cats for the win sorry to dog lovers but they are just too high maintenance, I refuse to do walks for them everyday and I don't want to have to clean up after them and they just won't let me have any quiet time and I find cats have more personality. With cats I don't have to walk them in rain or snow and if I opened a door for them in that sort of weather, if they had eyebrows would raise 1 at me and ask would I go out in that. Also I have found dogs are generally more stupid than cats the possible exception of Jack Russells since they're sly little sods though fun. I always remember a neighbour who lost 1 of her dogs (think it was a Scotty) because it chased a stick off a cliff. Yes it was tragic but the only thought dominating my head at that time was I MUST NOT LAUGH.

Dogs jump around like nutcases, slobber on you, jump up at you and scratch you. Cats sit there being lovely and furry and purry and let themselves out through the cat flap.

Cats are much better :p

Explained it better than I ever could. Dogs are awesome, cats are completely useless and uncaring creatures.

I have both and like both but I have never understood the sentiment that cats are uncaring creatures. Every cat I've ever own absolutely loved me. They revolve their attention around me, when I move from room to room they follow right behind me, they rub up against me, jump up in my lap and if I hadn't pet them recently they'll hug my arms trying to pull my hand in closer. When I was a kid, I had an indoor/outdoor cat that brought a bird she caught to the house. Instead of leaving it outside in front of the door, she ran inside with it and dropped it off in front of my bedroom door then shouting meowing for me to wake up.

Having both a dog and my second cat, I'd say I'm definately more of a cat person.
They require less maintenance than dogs for one thing. I just leave mine out food, water and an open window and it is set for life (and he gives me decapitated mice to show his appreciation!)

I like dogs, but cats are better in my opinion. I have a black cat that likes to chill with me on my bed. They prowl the house, they're quiet, they catch stray bugs and lizards and things, they act smugly superior (which is adorable in its own convoluted way), and evil people stereotypically have a Right-Hand Cat. I practice evil as a hobby, so why not?
Obligatory "A-muahahahah!"
The problem is: I have mild allergies, so I'm not really an animal person. Both cats and dogs leave hair everywhere. I wonder if it's possible to have an evil sphynx?

Yes, I like dogs. That's my personal opinion on the matter.(Which, by the way, was already implied before you pointed it out) I will offer no facts or arguments to back that opinion up. Care to explain why there's something wrong with that?
"I don't understand how anyone could like cats more than dogs. Dogs are better in every conceivable way"

That's whats wrong with that. You stated it as if it was not an opinion, but a fact. Perhaps adding a "I think" or "my opinion is" before opinions, instead of saying them without any indication that you consider it to be an opinion, could avoid conflicts in the future.

I gotta go with cats, simply because they are much easier to care for, mine goes outside to take care off business, so no smelly catbox to deal with. Dogs are fine, I've had a few of them too & they are not as stupid as a lot of people seem to think they are, all the ones i've had have been very smart.

I love both. I haven't had a dog since I was in 4th grade though, and I can't have my kitty in the place I'm currently living in (which is a load of crap because the guy that lives downstairs has two cats and a dog).

Cats are capable of handling themselves (I don't have to take them on walks), are aloof and elegant, fairly silent (provided they aren't hungry) and don't require me to pick up their leavings.
They are also generally softer and squishier.

i.e. They're low maintenance, their personalities are more to my liking, and they're better for cuddling in your lap.

And I still maintain that cats are more intelligent than dogs. They don't let you boss them around, despite demonstrating that they can easily understand how for example a window works.
Not to mention... wait, no, you mentioned it all. Damnit.
So yes, Cats, I love my cats. I have a fluffy black cat named Random, Random already has deity status with one of my friends ^.^

OK, look: The question of "Dogs or cats" is obviously completely subjective. Any answer to the question is OBVIOUSLY a personal opinion, whether it's stated as such or not. The question is so obviously subjective, that prefacing my post with a "in my opinion" would have been totally redundant. That's why I didn't. Can we please stop arguing over petty semantics in a thread about fucking pet preference now?

Dogs. We have our second at the moment, and I can't really remember what the household was like without one.

P.S. Always thought it was weird how Dogs seem to have so much more variation than cats. Sure, the breeds DO have their differences, but none of the cats I've seen differ much at all, especially in appearance.

P.P.S. As for the whole intelligence argument, I think it depends on the breed in question. Border Collies are notably the smartest dog breed there is, I would place them above cats in general.
