I'm more of a cat person. Damn, I love cats. They're just so snuggly. Well, dogs are too, but... hell I don't know. I like cats more than dogs is my Final Answer.

If only counting awesomeness than dogs. They learn tricks, puppies are just as adorable as kittens and they don't turn into fat couchdwellers with a perpetual disapproving stare.
They're also very loyal wich is never a bad thing. If his/her owner dies a dog will genuinly be depressed. A cat will try to eat the corpse as soon as it's getting hungry.
Dogs are also one of the few animal groups in the world that continue to learn through play almost their entire lives. Translation: they stay as playful as a puppy (within reason given their age and size). Do cats do this? See above.

But as for convenience: cats. No walking, minimal grooming etc. Other than that mostly take care of themself.

Dogs, I mean I have a cat, and cats are softer, cuter and easier to keep but I like dogs better, maybe it's the loyalty or maybe it's the cat's lack of loyalty.

Dogs. Absolutely.

Man's best friend and a loyal companion who loves you unconditionally.

The other creature mentioned is pure rubbish.

Love both tbh, not sure what I'd have if I had the option. I'd probably go with cat assuming I lived in an apartment though, dogs need more space and once you train a cat a bit, it takes up less of your time (compared to dog's walks I mean).

If I had a house though, not sure. Would probably have both :p

I've had both and my answer is definitely cats. Dogs remain stupid their entire lives, they shit in the house, pretty much destroy everything, chew everything to bits. You need to constantly walk them, pet them, play with them, watch them, etc. It's more than a pet, its a full time job. You can't leave a dog at home by itself either.

Cats give you the same love you give them. Once you learn how to properly interact with a cat, it'll love you and you'll adore it. Some helpful tips:

Cats see staring at aggressive. Thats why they look away from you all the time, they're trying to say "hey man, im cool with you, dont worry". The less eye contact you give a cat the more it will like you and the more it will want to be around you. The mistake many people make it seeing a cat and instantly treating it like a 'dog' "hey buddy, c'mere buddy! *slaps hands together* c'mon, stupid cat!" you're litterally scaring the thing.

A cat is man's best friend, in my opinion, dog's are great at chasing escaped convicts and finding drugs. And shitting everywhere and basically being little monsters.

hoo, boy, here come the flames!

I wonder what it is about cats that makes us think they're smarter than dogs. They're not, but I certainly thought they were until I read otherwise, and I can't for the life of me figure out how they hoodwinked us so effectively.

Anyway, yeah, dogs all the way. I'm allergic to cats, which probably disqualifies me from voting, but even before I found out, I was a dog person. Kittens come out slightly ahead of puppies on the cute factor, but that's the only thing I can think of that cats have in their favour. If you train your dogs right, they can be just as quiet, clean, loving & obedient as any cat.

Plus, what can cats do? Nothing, that's what. Dogs can do anything [http://www.cracked.com/article/133_7-dogs-that-accomplished-more-than-we-ever-will/].

I have a cat, who I love to bits, but I'd say I still prefer dogs because I know that Oscar (my cat) would ditch me the second a better opportunity presented itself.
I'm almost certain he's cheating on me with another house in our estate. I rescue him as a kitten from the side of the road and that's the thanks I get. You wouldn't get that shit from dogs.

Devious, lovable bastards.

I like both but then I have had some dog-like cats and and cat-like dogs. I took in a stray cat that would follow me from room to room and play fetch and sleep at my feet. I had a dog that was litterbox trained and would like his paws and face but still incredibly laid back. All in all, I don?t like one over the other.

I have a cat that acts like a dog.

He'll come when called, waits at the front door when I get home, plays fetch, barks at people he does know and wags his tail when he's happy..

Well I'm allergic to cats... so guess what, I'm dog person. But generally I am more of a dog person. Dogs are just so simple and enjoy your company so much. Plus there's so much variation in personality of different breeds that there's one for everyone.
