Dogs. I've had dogs all my life, and since I stay at home by myself my two Beagles are a great source of company.

Dogs of course.

Cats are cruel, demanding, aloof, promiscuous spawns of Satan and anti-Semites, and must be treated as such.

I don't hate cats or anything, but I don't understand how anyone could like cats more then dogs. Dogs are better in every conceivable way.

God, I miss having a dog....
You, sir, constructed this post with the utmost amount of facts possible and I respect you for adhering to only the facts, and not allowing opinions to grace the words that you have typed. *snerk*
Yes, I like dogs. That's my personal opinion on the matter.(Which, by the way, was already implied before you pointed it out) I will offer no facts or arguments to back that opinion up. Care to explain why there's something wrong with that?
Most likely because you said dogs are better in every conceivable way. Which does sound more like a fact than an opinion. I am not trying to start an argument here or anything. I am mainly stating my opinion on the matter.

I must disagree with you about dogs. I think cats are better than dogs in every conceivable way.

Dogs are like servants. Drooling, panting fools that follow us just because they don't possess the cognitive functions to think for themselves. Cats are like true friends, they have a mind of their own and they don't give a fuck if I insult them occasionally for not following my orders, because they don't consider me better than them.

Cats are better. They're affectionate but they're not needy. They're also more ninja. Dogs are alright too, but they just can't compete.

Had two of these in the house when I was growing up.

Just look at him and tell me you don't love him. Go on, try.

I am a cat person, but I wouldn't mind owning a Siberian Husky.

They are just so beautiful and very smart. Not the typical slobbering brick head of some breeds. Very trainable if you put forth the effort. Plus they prefer to howl like a wolf than bark.

I hate barking...

Cats.

I used to be more evenly balanced in the cat vs. dog thing, but then I had to dog-sit my mothers HORRIBLE labrador while she was on holiday for TWO WEEKS. That thing is so needy that when my mum leaves the room it starts howling, so it was pretty much howling non-stop for two weeks. Me and my boyfriend had to take it in turns sleeping because if we both went to bed it would sit outside the door, scratching and howling.
I know its like that because my mum spoils it and has turned it into a needy little bugger, but it will be a long time before I could consider getting a dog without wanting to puke.

I'm probably more cat-like personality-wise, but I'd much rather have a dog. Maybe I don't like the thought of sharing the couch with something so much like myself, I don't know.

Neither cats nor dogs-ferrets! I have 2 ferrets. They are quite smart, they're playful, but they don't make a lot of noise or mess.

Dogs. Without a doubt, dogs. Will a cat wait by the door when you leave? No, they don't care if you come back or not. When you stroke them, they're like 'Well... OK then, but you'd better put more food in my bowl than you did last night.' Whereas my dog practically orgasms when someone strokes him.

I prefer cats. They can take care of themselves and I have one that takes care of "intruders". If it doesn't know the person it lures them in with cutesiness and then neatly attaches itself to their arm. My other cat is my shadow, constantly following me around, sometimes hitching a ride on my shoulder, and howling when she doesn't know where I am.

While I have not yet own either pets but I would think I would be more of a cat person. I tend to be a indoor type of person however I do go out into town but I would want to use that time to walk the dog (I go inside to shops when I walk into town center).

I like both dogs and cats, they are their own kinds of pet and cater to two different types of owners. But my preference is cats because of the many aforementioned reasons stated by other posters:

Low Maintenance
Strangely Intelligent
Cuddly
You know where you stand with them

Like I said, I get on well with both cats and dogs. What I don't like is people saying they'd have no problem killing a cat, that's the only time in my life where I could, in my own head, justify murdering another human being.

I love both, but ultimately, cats > dogs.

I love dogs, but I will be honest here: I cannot respect them. These animals just simply EXIST for people, personality wise. I enjoy cats more because they do what they want, and to hell with you. Having a cat is like rooming with another person. Dogs are too much like Siri for my liking.

But over all I am a snake person. They are like cats only not as active and everything they do is SLOW. They are more then happy to just sit there and do nothing all day... but still have the 'screw you' mentality. They are like chill cats, I just adore them.
