I'm feeling much more comfortable with my inability to remember the names of people I talk to everyday, after seeing the replies I'm getting. Glad to know I'm not in the minority...

I'm about equal for both, but if it is a female and I find her attractive I use all my power to try and remember both. Even if that means saying it silently to myself over and over.

Just something I'm curious about... I hear some of my friends say they can never remember what people look like, because they're a "name" person, and others say the opposite. Just wondering how it breaks down.

I'm personally a "face" person... Never can seem to remember a persons name (or anything, for that matter), but I can recognize people I met once, two years ago. Sometimes, I can't remember who someone on my friends list on the escapist is, because they changed their avatar. I'm looking at you, shapsters.

It always makes me think I'd do horrible if I was in some action movie.

Dramatic person in a hurry: "The third brick from the left, open it and type in 398127."
Me: "What?"
Them: "No time! Go! You have thirteen minutes before the bomb blows up!"
Me: "What?"

Anyway... Which are you? And why?

EDIT: Added a both option, and a neither option.
398127.

3 squared is 9, 9 - 8 = 1, 1 doubles to two (I would personify the number with the "rally" emotion), and following that emotion what number would bring us back to 9(the 'peak')?... 7.

398127.

I thought that as I read it, and that's how I'd handle the situation.

That being said, I work in the Navy, where everyone's name is embroidered on their uniforms.

Chalk me up as a face, because I take names for granted.

The bank sent me a temporary PIN number for a new debit card: 8259.

It feels like I work 8:00AM to[small](2)[/small] 5:00PM 9 days a week.

The humor and silliness only enhances its memoribility.

I'm a face person; and by that, I mean that I don't rememeber any of my reletives names, but once I see their face, I remember them.

I usually don't have problems remembering either faces or names of people I meet (maybe I just don't meed that much people), but for what it's worth, I'm a face person. Very ocassionaly it happens that I know a certain person but am not (entirely) sure of his/her name; it rarely happens that I hear a name and have no idea who it is.

On the other hand, that only goes when talking about my personal social life. With actors and artists it's exactly the other way around, I generally know their names but not the faces. Which makes sense if you think about it, I guess.

You have some interesting ways to remember those things... Is that something they teach you in the military, or is it just your own way of doing it?

I'm definitely going to have to try that sort of thing myself...

Name, face and voice for some reason, I never forget a voice.

I remember escapists by their avatars and I remember RL people's names, faces and voices.

In 9th grade (first year of highschool,) I was hailed by someone I had met five or six years ago.
I recognized his face, but for the life of me, couldn't remember his name.
He did not have the same problem.

Luckily I managed to avoid awkwardness.

I am awful with names, and I can't remember numbers for even a few seconds.
But words. Words I can remember for a lifetime.
But words don't borrow stuff and then return it a month after you wanted it back (and in much worse condition, I might add). That alone makes them more memorable... You're cheating. >.>

It was just something I started doing on my own. It's a fun brain exercise when you can't entertain yourself otherwise; like standing a post as a sentry.

The Navy just taught me to lower my expectations and hate waking up in the morning.

Face person, I always have to rack my brain before figuring out their names.

For me, that was being born. Might I ask you: Why the Navy?

It's nothing big... But the Navy seems like the least-respected branch of the military, and I can't think of myself going in to it.

Another question is: Does anyone in your family make jokes about you and your "seamen"? I know I would. >.>

I can recognise people very easily, but ask me to describe them and I draw a blank. I'm good at remembering names too, and as soon as I think of a name I can link in loads of little details about that person.
This, pretty much. I had a fun time trying to remember names and faces for about thirty new people during Fresher's Week, I can tell you that!

I remember both names and faces; sometimes it will be only one or the other, but usually both.
I sometimes scare people I haven't seen or talked to for years because I remember who they are and most of our history together.

It usually takes me awhile to learn someone's name, so I rely on recognizing what their face looks like. I don't have a problem with either once I actually learn the name, but I do start out just remembering what they look like.
