Thus far, you are the only one being a douche. There is a totally civilized discussion going on, and you are trying to flame it all to hell. Gtfo.
Right... do you even know what the word flame means? Thought not...

Kind of contradictory to your points telling me to "gtfo" (seriously you have to use abbreviations?) Seems as though the only "douche" here is you.

Look at the quality of discussion on this thread - its horrendous - I'm trying to discourage these kind of threads - people like you are encouraging them.

I sense drama coming on.
Yes that's because of whole furrys being disliked by trolls and the escapist having alot of trolls. Also furrys have a hard time putting themselves across well to the rest of the world.

I'm not enough of a fan of anything to build my identity around it. I would no more cosplay as Bat-Man as I would Aero the Acrobat.
Now, I do enjoy the works of the likes of Robert Crumb which includes a great big bunch of everything sexual, Cerebus, The Island of Doctor Moreau and some of the old stories such as the Coyote tales and Reynard the Fox (in its original form...except for the whole Old English thing.)that these people seem to have taken inspiration from, so I share some interests with them but not the intensity.
What I don't get is this repulsion some people have for them. If they are animals, what is the problem with seeing them in sexually explicit scenes? Not only can one see such things in TV-Y documentaries and the only kind of sexual content that YouTube turns a blind eye to but the episode of South Park labeled on DVD as 'Proper Condom Use' had the boys manually pleasuring dogs and it got nowhere near the same level of negative reaction some otherwise liberal people seem to have for these characters.
Now, if they are just seen as aliens or monsters, then that's a whole other thing. Vixen Woman= Harpy/Were-Wolf/Mermaid?
Shy of some Disney-related 'purity' obsession or a belief that it takes away from human uniqueness (or something), I can't see why people don't just have themselves a giggle about sexual aspects of, well, any fiction, really.
The biggest problems I have with this whole 'Furry' thing is the whole 'life-styling' thing, but I am against any and all fan life-styling and the name. How can anyone think that it is a good idea to use an adjective as a proper noun? Disgusting!

I do not classify myself as a furry (but then again, I don't like to classify myself as anything) but I think that some of the furry art is cool. I used to and still read books by writers that are often considered "furry literature" by some - Ernest Thompson Seton's books, for example. So I suppose that makes me a fan.

Meh. It's okay.

And all of the fucktards who think that furry culture has anything to do with bestiality... Really, do get a brain or eliminate yourself from genepool. Saying that furries practice bestiality is like saying that every man practices pedophilia and rape - some might, yes, but it's hardly an indicator of anything.
Thank you for your input and comments in defense of the culture. There will be some inflammatory commentary, and thus far, I would say that a vast majority of the respondents have been very mature.

Who didn't do the short armed "rawr" thing when they were 5?
I do that all the time!

Also, I don't like furries...

If all your going to do is complain about the thread then just ignore it.

If the moderators think that it's not working then they'll remove it... I for one think that it's a funny thread where there's a moderately qualitative discussion going on.

I enjoy all the wonderfully debased porn that comes out of the furry fandom. But then again I wallow in the filth that is human sexuality and actively seek out the most ridiculous aspects of it. Furry never fails to disappoint.
*snickers*
The best part is putting that behind you and reading amateur fiction of an NC17 nature to psychoanalyze the author. That, and to make fun of their writing.
Uhm, or so I heard.

Not a furry, but everyone's furry for Krystal.
I'm pretty sure that's true.

Wait, sanely voiced opinions that sound like my own? What is this, the moon? Substitute "furry webcomic" for "literature" in part, and you're about where I am; there are so dang many of them out there that you can play Sturgeon's law to advantage. If there's more of something in a specific genre, there can be more good stuff when you're done searching.
Then again, there is an enormous sexual subsection to the subculture if not really the same thing as bestiality. Searching for non-porn furry webcomics can be scarring.

I know, they just make people feel kinda uncomfortable. The sad thing is it's the smallest minority that sets the example for the entire fandom, by virtue of being the whiniest members of it.

I'm not, thanks.
4Channers invaded, obviously.
Maybe the whole troll attack yesterday was part of an invasion. I wouldn't be surprised.
Didn't see any threads yesterday about trolling The Escapist forums on /b/ or /v/.
You go to 4chan? Gee whiz, you must be really cool!

wait
Did I say it in a way implying "oh lol, I go to 4chan I'm sooo cool". No I didn't. Next time you try to make someone look like a moron, try to read what they posted :3

Brilliant...

Absolutely brilliant...

You turned a discussion with a growing potential for drama (apparently,) into a critique of grammatics. *applauds*

In turn, I shall agree that formulating a lifestyle around anything has its dangers, but that discussion is outside the scope of this thread. I welcome you to start a PM discussion of the matter if you are so inclined.

Didn't see any threads yesterday about trolling The Escapist forums on /b/ or /v/.
This guy probably is a lone troll. If it is organized, though, I'll just say that /b/ is huge and deletes threads after an hour, so if there was a thread on it, it could have very easily just slipped by.
Wait are you calling me the lone troll? o_O
I don't remember trolling anyone in this thread .-.
Anyways, yeah it could have slipped by.

I wish I was part of a fandom that didn't have so many quasi-members giving the rest of us a bad name. It happens to the furries all the time and even more to the other fandom I'm in - but no way in hell I'm talking about that here :D

This whole thread has reminded me of a kid I knew in school when I 6 or so.

When everyone was asked what they wanted to be, this kid said "I wanna be a bear" The teacher followed up with "You can't be a bear", and the kid ran out of the class room crying.

I wonder if he became a bear yet.
