Btw, Can't remember being afraid of the dark but I watched "Nightmare on Elm Street" when I was 7 so I was afraid of sleeping for a long time in my childhood

Not afraid of complete darkness,
but when it is semi-dark and there are mirrors around.....

This was precisely the realization that allowed me to stop being afraid of the dark. I'm 6'1 with long hair, a beard and absurdly wide shoulders. Once it occurred to me that I'm actually what makes most people afraid of the dark, I didn't see why I should be. Seriously, people will run away or cross to the other side of the road if they see me walking towards them at night. What do I need to be afraid of?
Great, now along with Wolves, burglars/rapists, world killing meteors and various darkness/vision-based SCPs, I have to deal with the threat of running into YOU whilst going for a glass of water because I didn't leave the light on this time. Thanks a lot.

Only in minecraft when I'm playing on hard, and without torches, food, armor, or weapons and at low health.

Depends on what you mean by "afraid of the dark".

Need to sleep with the lights on: No.

Severely unsettled by walking down a pitch-black corridor: Yes. (I start thinking about stuff related to my phobia of murky/dark water and the creatures it may hold. Not fun.)

Usually if there is enough light for me to figure out my surroundings (not a lot is required, i adapt relatively quickly), i tend to be ok. But pitch-black darkness without enough light for me to make out all the walls/objects (Corridors are usually required to create such an environment), is scary.

I get a bit of an escapism feeling in the dark, so I quite like it. I used to be afraid, though.

I wouldn't say I'm afraid of the dark, but it can certainly exacerbate any paranoia I may be experiencing at the time.

I'm not afraid of the dark, the dark is afraid of me. In all honesty though, the darkness doesn't scare me anymore. This may have something to do with a conceal and carry license and a Smith and Wesson 1911 357APC. The dark is far more likely to put me on edge and make me angry.

I think most people who think they're not afraid of the dark is because they only ever really encounter darkness when they're at home safe in thier beds, or some other place they feel comfortable. Even walking around the streets at night most places have street lights so its never really that dark.

Now if you were in a forrest in the middle of the night or a spooky castle or something and it was pitch black most people would be pretty unnerved by not being able to see anything.

Now, dark and underwater....gnaaaaah!
Oh, you sonofabitch ... gonna have nightmares over that one. Again. Then end up having somehow gotten tangled up in my pillow. Are you/have you ever been a diver, by any chance?

Total darkness is a cool experience. I'll never forget my first spelunking trip when we turned off all our lights.
All I can think of with that is the bit in Avatar (as in the cartoon) where the classic quartet get stuck underground...
Sokka "Aaaagh! I can't see", Toph* "Oh no! I'm SOOO SCARED" (or something), Sokka "uh ... sorry".
Thinking of that, do we have many blind contributors to the forum, who are giggling at this thread? No, seriously ... I wonder how "you" get on with fora of this type. Using a screen reader on it must be really tedious. Skimming isn't really possible ... or is it?

Now I sleep with the T.V on as my Flashlight...
Bloody hell man, you know that unless your TV is a/ really small, b/ ludicrously efficient (we're basically talking "It's actually an iPhone", here), you'd be better off just leaving a normal light turned on?
Also aren't you worried that, at some point, the TV station will put on The Ring, and you'll catch various snippets of it in a semiconcious state and experience some truly bed-sh*tting nightmares?

Afraid of the dark? Wise.

What the hell dude, that looks like Shen Long... yknow ... the titular Dragon in a particular anime about his Balls? Practically strokable. There are MUCH worse images out there if you really want to freak someone out enough that they'll sleep under a sunlamp...

Im not afraid of the dark itself. But rather if theres something in it that threatens me im afraid of that, and the dark just helps to amplify said fear since seeing it is harder.

I am not afraid in the dark,(just dislike it, since I cannot see stuff then) nor am I over 18, but I am clumsy, and tend to stub my toes/bodyparts on surfaces, which scks. (enhanced by the dark)

I do not fear the darkness.
The darkness should fear me.

I wonder where this I don't fear x, x should fear me thing originates from.
Probably too old to know though.

Hmm, it depends. If I'm in my house and all the lights are off, not so much. If I've just watched a scary movie I may be a little paranoid. If I'm walking out in the streets late at night all alone, I would be.

Generally, no. I'm usually more afraid of stubbing my toe as a result of being in the dark, than the actual dark itself. >.<
