I've often used achievements as a reason to go back and play the game a different way, but I've never agonized over not being able to unlock an achievement. If I find one that's too hard for me to do I just think "Fuck it" and move on to another one or play a different game.

And I've never played a game just because I heard it has easy achievements.

No, I'm not an achievement whore, I just enjoy being challenged. Even if there were no score attached, I would try to accomplish the goals, because as I stated, I love a good challenge.

Not really, I just play the games, and if I get some achievments, then thats a bonus. But sometimes I will just try for some achievments.

Hmm, my gamerscore is rather high, however I'm not much of an achievement whore.

I just play lots of games.

Call of Duty 4 is one if the few exceptions where I went out of my way to get all 1000.

Being a rabid completionist, I like to do trophies/achievements. Some are ridiculous and I refused to waste my time on them but some are fun to do and extend the gameplay out a bit (when a game loses its goal I lose interest but achievements are new goals to shoot for after the main story).

Sometimes it can be entertaining to do some achievement hunting, but if the achievement is one that I don't think would be fun strive for then I won't go out of my way to try and get it to raise a number that no one cares about (I think...) on a profile.

I like getting as many Achievements as I can for any games I play, but I'm not obsessed with getting all of them, and I won't go as far as playing games I don't even care about just to get more.

Achievements don't make bad games any more bearable I find. If the game is decent I will get as many as I feel amused to in my play through and be done with it and feel a little accomplished. I will rarely revisit just for digital bragging rights that no one really pays attention to.

That being said if there is some incentive towards getting those achievements in a fun game that I will play even if there weren't, like TF2, then I find that I play more just to get them. And in that case they do extend the amount of time I get out of a game.

There was a really good article on the escapist this year about achievements. I forget which issue but it was basically breaking down the whole system. It was a good read.

I didn't think I was, but I've found myself more and more often checking the lists of achievements on my games and seeing if I could get one of the more elusive ones. For instance, the other day I was looking through what achievements I'd got on Left 4 Dead, and apart from the ludicrous ones (Nothing Special springs to mind!) I noticed I didn't have the Safety First achievement, so I actually took the time to play through a campaign just to get it. And then I felt a bit hollow because I realised I'd traded about 40 minutes of my life for 20 gamer points. That's not a good rate of exchange in anyone's book!

I wouldn't call myself an achievement whore, but I think they're fun and do add to a game's lifespan. Or maybe I've been distracted by them because I haven't had a decent new game for a while!

I'm not really that bothered about achievements, if I stumble upon one then, yay me, if not, I don't worry.

I am not an achievement whore, I consider myself to be an active gamer. If I like the game, then I want to play it more, which means I am going to play for the achievements. If I didn't like the game, it's either 1.) in the trash or 2.) never played again.

Achievements make the game worth playing and add extra incentive to play the game.

I am an achievement whore and a completionist. I'm a little OCD about it though. I hate online achievements. Absolutely hate them...but if I play a game on my main profile, I HAVE to get all of the achievements for it. It will bug me endlessly if I don't. I can't stand to have an incomplete game tied to my account. Therefore, if I want to play an older game and it has online achievements, since the community is most likely inactive I will log out of my main profile and log onto an "Offline Profile" so that the game won't appear under my Live account.

And I will actively avoid games that have glitched achievements that cannot be unlocked. Ghostbusters, I'm looking at you. I will also avoid games that have ridiculously time consuming achievements...Bomberman Act Zero, for example - I refuse to play it because of the achievement where you have to blow up one million soft blocks. I heard it would take months upon months, maybe over a year of grinding to accomplish that. Chromehounds is another that I won't play because of the amount of time it takes to complete. It's estimated over 900 hours to earn all of the achievements.
