Day 1 DLC is common practice now, and i thoroughly enjoyed ME1&2, so ME# is a buy for me

Nope. Maybe when it comes to Steam, I'll try it... after Mass Effect 2, which I still haven't played.

Then again, I'm pretty satisfied with how the first one ended.

...Risks?

...Last I checked the Mass Effect series was fucking brilliant and the demo was a huge success (fully functional multiplayer for free, doesn't get much better than that). I don't care if they put DLC in licensed toilet paper, I want the game so I'm buying it.

I've been firm in my decision not to buy ME 3 ever since they announced BF 3 would be Origin exclusive. That's when I faced the fact that ME 3 would be Origin exclusive, and since I was already on the fence because of the lame aftertaste ME 2 left with me, Origin pushed me over the edge to "not buy."

The best part, is that in the 4-5 months since I made the decision, everything EA has released about the game has made me happier with my choice.

The first Mass Effect felt like an attempt to recreate the appeal of KoTOR without using the star wars license. One of the coolest parts of that game is *minor KoTOR spoiler* when Bastilla and the player character go to the ancient temple on Dantooine and get some revelations about the star forge and what Revan and Malak are up to. I got a similar feeling while playing ME 1, as they revealed the deep galactic history of the protheans, reapers, citadel, etc.

I don't really care that ME 2 turned the series from an "RPG" into a shooter, my problem is that they moved from scifi to mainstream blockbuster action. This latest trailer for ME 3 completes that arc, by showing us an earth full of present day / near future imagery, and all the usual blockbuster puke like spaceships shooting explosion beams into skyscrapers.

I'm actually starting to find this funny, if not a little exhuasting. "EA is horrible! Bioware sucks noaw!!! Mass Effect 3 is da evilz cause it has day 1 DLC and origin!!!!!!" Yeah you're going to change a whole bunch of people's minds 2 weeks before it comes out and after couple of years of waiting.

I had regular edition on pre-order since the day it was announced. Then I got a ten dollar coupon from amazon and upgraded to the collector's edition and had that since october. So yeah, I'm gonnna play my ME3 with pride and ignore anyone that complains about it.

EDIT: Also I will not use your poll as it implies that there's some kind of horrible tragey come to those who buy ME3.

What is wrong with some of you people? You like the series? Buy it. Don't like the series? Don't buy it. This is the third game of a series and at this point there shouldn't be a risk in if you want it or not.

If you're using business practices and what measures you don't agree with as an excuse to not buy the game, that's all on you. There is no risk here.

Where is the option for there is no risks? I want to see this story through to the end. NO cross advertising or day 1 dlc, or poopy steam imitators will stop me. I also really enjoyed DA2 and SWTOR.

A: I do not see where any risk is involved.
B: Im stunned at people thinking there is some sort of risk involved.
C: Im really excited to see how the kinect integration works. That fact alone is worth the price of admission.

Thing is, this is only a risk if your a preorderer, or day one purchaser. Really there is no risk involved if you can wait 24 hours for users to post opinions to the net so that you are able to make a more informed decision.

Perhaps Im a bit backwards but to me, but who really blindly makes purchasing decisions?

I don't consider anything you've listed to be a risk. I have had my collector's edition of the game on pre-order for almost 6 months. It's the final installment of a series I have so far invested over 300 hours in (and counting as I'm still playing through ME2 for the 4th time).

I don't care if other people are getting different DLC or that there are iOS games or any of the palaver that people have been going on about. I am going to sit down and enjoy the hell out of it over and over again and no amount of fear-mongering is going to change that.

There was no way short of all my money mysteriously evaporating that I wasn't going to get this game day one.

What risk? It's Mass Effect 3, for crying out loud. This is BioWare, not Capcom. I played the demo and enjoyed it. Collector's Edition, here I come.

I'll be getting it at some point in some form, but I'm unlikely to get it at release unless one of my friends buys it and I can steal it. What pushed me over the edge was the Day 1 DLC.

[MINOR SPOILERS FOLLOW]

Day 1 DLC is a Prothean companion. You either need a collector's edition or it costs $10. Seriously, you can't drop something that important to the lore of the ME universe and ask me for $10 with a straight face. If it was one of those "free with every new copy of the game" like DA1 Shale was, or the Cerberus Network from ME2, I'd be game, but this is just extortion. And no, don't tell me not to buy it. That should be in the game. Feel free to feel otherwise, but Protheans are integral to the ME lore and getting to talk to a living one seems like something significant.

Granted, my reluctance isn't just from that. I don't like all the "bells and whistles" that they're doing, with the facebook game and the iOS game and this and that and it just feels like they are doing everything they can to milk the ever loving shit out of the game. I'm sure someone will come along and rationalize/justify it all, but that doesn't change the fact that I've got a bad taste in my mouth about ME3 and will not be buying it on release day.

I was going to get it, I really wanted to.
Now however? No. I will not be purchasing it when it comes out, I may get it eventully but there are better games I would prefer to get first, the "from ashes" DLC sealed it for me.

People thinks EA is full of dicks, which it sort of is, and people are being whinny children about a popular game series. Lots of game series I've liked have gotten ire from fans pro and con to it before and I've taken the risk. Nothing I've seen has shown that the developers have gotten a lobotomy and failed to remember how to make a competent game so I have no reason to doubt it won't be fun, Hell maybe it'll be less fun but even if it takes a hit it will still be above my threshold of 'worth it.' Hell the immense ire actually means I have to buy it no matter if its good or bad. It's going to be more popular then Jesus because you're all marketing it by complaining so I have to buy it to have it as reference material. I think it will be a good buy despite what other think. Hell if I listened to other people's opinions over my own I wouldn't own lots of games I have that I enjoy. I honestly am going extremely resistant to sensational events like this because I instantly am skeptical of things that make people angry because of how much stupid junk people have gotten angry over.

I really don't see any risks. I have the limited-collector's edition on pre-order from Amazon.

I've only been disappointed with my game purchases about 2% of the time. From BioWare, I've only been disappointed with one purchase, and that would be the Dragon Age: Origins Ultimate Edition.

I could only get about twenty hours in and couldn't get myself to play further. The only reason I got it was because I had pre-ordered Dragon Age 2 and was looking to play the first one first. I went ahead and still kept my pre-order and found that BioWare had fixed all the problems I felt that DA:O had. In my opinion, DA2 is a better game for it, and I was actually able to get through and beat it and I loved it, didn't put it down to touch another game till I had beat it.

It was a risk for me to keep that pre-order, but I had bee following the news DA2, and I felt confident it would be better, and I was rewarded with a superb game.

I played the Mass Effect 3 demo, and I loved it, so I don't think I have any risks going in.

Sniper Team 4 said:
When I saw this thread, I literally said, "Huh?" I clicked it because I wanted to see what risks you were talking about. Guess you have a different idea of risk than I do. I do agree that the game not living up to my expectations is a risk, but that risk is so small that it may as well not be there. Unless they have Shep die (or Liara) no matter what you do, it will meet my expectations.
Just playing the demo I was going, "Ah! Look at that! Yes! Ah! AH! AAAAHHHH!! Need game NOW!"
Its still a risk, you still risk spending your money on something you might not like, but like I said, its more about letting people know (specially the oneswith pitforks and torches burning already), that if they do decide to buy the game and end up hating it, its their own fault for taking the "risk". ;)

I said it before and i will say it again. There is no way in hell that i will even consider buying mass effect 3. Their writing has been getting worse and worse. They are removing rpg features, this time they are claiming they have added stuff but it is still well short of what mass effect 1 had (sequels should expand on the original not remove good parts and replace with shit). Proper Dlc prior to release? wtf is wrong with EA? its as if they think they can get a game and just rip chunks out of it for the sake of making some more money. Its absolute bullshit and whats even worse is that people are still going to be buying it so EA will continue to do it. Theres Origin. Even more bullshit from EA. Install a mod on our game? Ban. Use innapropriate language on our forum? Ban. This kind of stuff is bullshit. Anyone who wants to support EA for doing this should go see a psychiatrist coz only clinically insane people would support this shit. I can go on even further with why I wont be buying the garunteed piece of shit game of the year known as Mass Effect 3 but i will instead refer you here http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/9.339834-Poll-Are-you-still-getting-Mass-Effect-3?page=7#13754997 if you want to see the rest of the reasons.

The title is hilarious. Are you going to RISK buying ME3? Really?
There is no more risk than there is to buying any other game and yes, I have already pre-ordered the Collectors Edition.

That said, I'd buy the shit out of a Mass Effect edition of RISK.

The game is definitely going to satisfy me, there's no doubt about that, but I'm not buying it anyway because of the extremely silly DLC decisions.
