I really like my name, and while it was a bit of a pain growing up with, I have nothing against it now. I'm Catherine shortened to Catie, which led to me being "Catie with a 'C'" through-out elementary school and Jr High. And whenever I go to a new doctor or something like that I have to say "Catie.. no, with a C". Amusingly, I've met a handful of Catherines like me while working the cash register at work, and it always makes me smile. When I have to pipe Katie on a cake, however, I usually give a little shudder.
I currently work with a Katie in my department, but we're known as 'Katie 1' and 'Catie 2' in speaking.
My last name is just ethnic enough (Sicilian) that people butcher it constantly. But, it was a good way to judge if a caller was someone who knew my family or was a telemarketer before the advent of Caller-id. Again, it was annoying in school with those first role calls. ".. It's pronounced like this, Sir."
Side note, I finally met someone whose name is my favorite name ever, Antigone. I saw that pop up on my register and I had to gush for about 5 minutes to this elderly lady about how much I loved that name and the play that shares it. She was happy about that though. .. Damn, why didn't I ask what her nickname is?
