We got a gold, 2 silvers, and a bronze last night and the Men's Hockey team just crushed Russia so I am pretty proud right now. Also considering we never won gold in Canada, and we are now tied for first for gold is pretty amazing too. Come on girls lets beat the Yanks today!

I just feel like all the Hockey and Racing type sports have turned into one giant "who's country's penis is bigger" contest, and I can't be bothered to watch.
Or in this case, what country has the fastest skaters or best hockey players.

OT: Well I'm from America, so yeah.

I'm Australian and I think we got a couple of gold and a silver, not bad considering that the majority of our country is like living in freaking glass furnace all year round, and no I've never seen snow.

We've(finland) apparently got silver from the snowboard half-pipe..

Our hockey team had some trouble with The Czech Republic, but managed to win. Next one up is USA.. USA's been getting of easy, but they did turn Canada into a pulp. Then again, Finland's only lost to Sweden, and Finland always loses to Sweden, it's sort of our thing. Definitely won't get gold, but I don't think Silver is too ridiculous a goal.

Did you watch the USA vs Canada game? Because the only reason USA won was their goalie. Canada played a better game and had way more shots and scoring opportunities. The biggest problem was poor line combinations, and Brodeur being stupid and giving away 2 goals. Those and the empty netter cost us, otherwise it was a 3-2 game. That being said, USA indeed played a decent game so no hard feelings. Plus, Canada came back to crush Germany 8-2 then Russia 7-3 with Luongo in net. All I can say is wait till we meet again. I know you're not american, but the final score doesn't mean it was a crushing defeat.
Sorry I'm just a little proud of the Canadian hockey team....

Anyway, I hope you guys beat USA. Good luck Finland.

I apologize for my cynicism, but when were they anything else, and isn't that the whole point of competition?

Ha yeah sorry. Haven't slept for nearly 24 hours now, and sort of went and exaggerated that USA - Canada game.

Anywhoo, I hope you guys win against Slovakia, and I hope we win against USA. However, I've got a bad feeling about the gold medal game being Canada - USA. If it looks like Finland's gonna lose against USA, I'll try to talk someone into hospitalizing Ryan Miller :)

I'm extremely disappointed in USA, we should have more medals! Especially gold. It sucked that Mancuso had to re-run the super G after Vonn's crash because they still let her go, knowing there was someone on the track still. She could have at least got top 10.

Good point! I suppose they always were this way. I'm not much for competition. I don't see the point in seeing who's country is better at shooting a gun at a target, then cross country skiing? Seems pointless.
Still I prefer the stuff like figure skating where there is an element of art involved. I've never watched those and thought "Oh yay my country is 'winning'." I've always simply cheered for whoever had the most moving performance, regardless of country. I would feel fine watching that even without the pretense of a competition.

Consider your self in a good position. America has won more medals in Vancouver than Britain has ever one in the history of the Winter Olympics.

One gold in Women's Skeleton, which I was thrilled to see. But both teams crashing out of the Curling before the medal stages...when we were favorites?!? That's just a poor showing.
I wasn't expecting much from team GB, but I'm still a little disapointed we only got the one medal.

For Finland these games have been a tragedy. Just look at it, we went in setting ourselves a par of 11 medals and what do we have? 1 silver from snowboarding. Especially the gigantic amount of fail in ski jumping has been a bit disheartening. Currently we're tied at 24. place.

However, we still have a very realistic chance at another medal from ice hockey, and personally that's the only event that really matters. If we get that gold, imo it'll make these games Finland's greatest success ever :D It would also place us 16th on top of Britain.

By the way, some people (the Swedish press) have suspected that Finland lost to Sweden on purpose. The reason for this being that by losing, Finland went up against the Czech Republic (which we beat this morning 2-0 during the last five minutes of the game) and will next be going at the USA, which I honestly believe we have a solid chance of winning. However, Sweden would have been pitted against Canada/Russia in the semifinals (or as of now, Canada [good job you did there, being a Canadian citizen myself I can't help but feel proud]). Would have, if they hadn't already lost in their quarterfinal match against this year's surpriser Slovakia. I don't know how true this is, and it is quite true that it's "just our thing to lose to the swedes", but it really did seem to me watching the Sweden - Finland game that our boys weren't really that intent on winning. Still, I am quite glad that Sweden got dropped out of the finals, I think that just boosted our chances of winning quite considerably :D

The only thing i'm disappointed about is that we lost to Slovakia in Men's hockey this morning.

Not really. It's always rough when the home country doesn't lead the medal race and especially with all of the effort put forward by the government to actually support potential olympians for once, the medal standings "should" be more in Canada's favour. However, despite our relatively low total medal count we do have the best G/S/B ratio out of the top countries at the games so it's certainly not all bad. Still great to be Canadian though. :)

I'm guessing Ireland didn't do too well. Hell, were we even in it? To be honest, we're not really going to do well in olympics until bombing drunken bar brawling becomes an olympic sport. And for those who say that wouldn't be an olypmic sport, well fuck off, it's always winter in Ireland.
