While I would love to come in here and say that yeah I know all kinds of crap my parents do not, their wisdom has proven to me just how little I actually know about life several times before and I have learned to heed their advice when it is given.
My father has degrees in both biochemistry and electrical engineering.
My mother is a tax accountant, stained glass artist with a minor in music theory.
I have a good eye for photography, and no degrees.
On the whole, I'm fairly certain they take the cake.
not really but i am smarter than them in some things and they are smarter and wiser than me in other things. but me and my dad are at somewhat the same level and can discuss philosophical things all the time. when i comes to life experience im not even close since both of my parents are over 50.
It depends how you measure intelligence I guess. I have 2 bachelors degrees whereas neither of my parents went to university. I would argue though that academic achievement isn't really the full measure.
I am pretty sure I'm more intelligent than my mum she is not very accomplished academically and has mostly taken low level accounting jobs to support the family and not for any ambitious or academic reason. She is very good at maths but for someone who worked in admin jobs for 28 years doesn't even know how to touch type which kind of shocked me...She sat down at my desk to type an email looked at my keyboard and said 'I can't use this keyboard it has no letters..' :| (My keys are all worn away and it almost has no letters left, WASD are completely gone hehe)
My dad however was very streetwise he was intensely charismatic and knew how to use that to run his own driving instruction business. He could drive absolutely anything but was kept out of a military, police or fire service career because of very intense colourblindness. My sister has the same sort of savvy and confidence but lacks any interest in academic pursuits. She can pretty much imitate the style of the old masters, in art, to the point where you can't tell the difference. I feel that she is wasted in her role of housewife and drug store part timer...
IQ wise I would say that I am, but then I think there are other things you can be 'intelligent' about.
Today knowledge I would tear the house down. But my father was smarter then me. There is a story when my father was sick for two weeks and came back to school with a test for all his classes.
He nailed every single last one of them.
But my mom is no louse. She can speak three Languages, (German, French and Spanish) She the FIRST to graduate colllege.
Will I surpassed them? Hell yes but it won't be till I at LEAST 29.
My dad has a PhD in Physics. You bet your ass he's smarter than me!
My mom, well... I guess I'm smarter than her. At least with anything that doesn't require speaking french.
not really, my mom, maybe in few aspects, like technology, and some parts of the sciences, but my dad is a doctor, fairly tech savvy, and just seems to know a lot of stuff
I'm only 15 but I already have more education under my belt than my mum, my dad... not the smartest, not stupid but I think i'm smarter than him. I'm also smarter concerning social clicks than both of them, ie body language etc. but i'm not sure if that counts
Yes I am. I have a greater social intelligence and technical intelligence. My mother is smart at times, she can be very logical. But her social intelligence can often be lacking, and she's arguing about trivial stuff with other people. It's rather annoying to watch
My dad's the head of the University of Physics here. Plus he's loaded with life experiences and general knowledge. And as you'd expect on a raw data processing level he's unbeatable.
So no, I don't even compare.
I'm shocked by the poll results though.
I have no idea by what criteria you guys judge this though. You seem to think that because your parents didn't finish college or high school or whatever and you did that you're smarter than them?
Intelligence goes way way beyond that. Or because they aren't as knowledgeable about modern stuff?
Gee, wonder how that works!
I have a better education than they have, but they have way more experience at life and they know me so well it's rediculous sometimes. Especially my dad. He can see right through me some times, when I least expect it. I only have to admit worrying about something, they already know it's bothering me.
I don't believe intelligence can measured by finite means and as such its impossible to say someone is smarter in a general range as such I voted no. She's better with literature and political things where as I'm better with computers and mechanical things.
so neither is smarter than the other but rather we are just different. I also wouldn't say that I'm smarter than the uneducated drug runner boy down the street because I bet you he knows just as much about all the different drugs as I do about computers, or the fishermans son who has no interest in school because while he can't seem to pass math class when it comes to being on the water he might as well be a rocket scientist to me.
My mom? Yes, I am very much smarter than her and I'm 15. My dad? Not really. He is really book-smart but stupid in a lot of other ways.
To be fair, my mom is more fluent in spanish than I am.
