I dunno about mimicking Yahtzee per say, it's probably more a case of us being cynical and (over) critical towards... well, pretty much everything. It just so happens that Yahtzee is cynical and pessimistic too.
In that sense, maybe. But I know my lack of talent.
Don't worry I know it too.
Sorry couldn't help myself.
Anyway, as far as quotes go yes, we (I) do quote him but its only because he's very funny and original (for the most part). I don't see a problem with it as a lot of escapists enjoy watching the videos so we all know the jokes and can laugh at them.
don't get me wrong. I try to drop the 'triple-cunted hooker' line as often as humanly possible.
There's a difference between having a similar worldview and emulating the man, I guess.

You should clarify the post or the question. The subject asks if I think I am channeling Yahtzee in my posts, but the poll question asks if I think others are channeling Yahtzee to a fault.

I do not believe I am channeling Yahtzee in my posts, but I believe many users on the escapist are.

You'll be surprised to find out that the lovable jerk persona existed long before Mr. Croshaw graced the internet with his hilarious reviews/rants.

I've had that same feeling about the members of this website also. I swear you are all highly influenced by whatever yahtzee says. Not in a mean way of course, just seems like it i thought.

It's probably because we find that because his style of writing is much more noticeable and recognized, we see similarities between our own writing and his, and we pass it off as us copying him because he's more well known on the internet.
Either that, or some people idolize him a bit too much.

He will take over the world. AND THERE IS NOTHING YOU CAN DO ABOUT IT!!! MUHAHAHA

And didn't Yahtzee admit to ripping off a bunch of people on his site once? So I guess we all are ripping off those people.

But, really, other than constantly quoting him whether it works in the conversation or not, the only time I really try to be Yahtzee is when I say "Funting".

Definitely, there's only one Yahtzee. And like you I love the "triple c*nted hooker" quote, it can put a new slant on almost any subject.

Yahtzee has an indisputable style. You all know what i mean.
I think you need to look around you more. The world (but particularly the UK) is full of fast talking cynical bastards.
Yahtzee's succes is that like Hugh Laurie, Rowan Atkinson, Charlie Brooker and many others he's managing to make some money out of being a fast talking cynical bastard. But copy his persona? I don't think so, for one thing he's not a Yorkshireman.

Hm. I don't really think that is the case. It would be more accurate to say that Yahtzee attracts a crowd of people with similar attitudes. After all, "callipygian stallion" (to name just one example) is probably not going to be funny to people who do not have massive vocabularies and find a lot of humor in wordplay, puns and the like.

So, those people who do find it funny come here to watch Yahtzee's videos and end up staying because there are other people with similar tastes already here... and believe me, forums where arguments do not devolve into name-calling and playground insults are incredibly, INCREDIBLY rare.

Of course, I can understand how you might mistake correlation for causation, but unless the guy heavily quotes Yahtzee (which I really almost never see), I don't think you can say that someone is trying to be Yahtzee.

You know, it is sorta creepy how close Yahtzee is to this Dr. House guy everyone's talking about.

If your gonna rip off yahtzee's way of expressing himself this IS NOT the website to do it on.
any rant that is fast and have good wordplay and some vulgar comparisons is gonna sound like Yahtzee if its related to video games. However I have never found ranting to be interesting or funny Yahtzee is definetly the only ranter I find has any charm. Rants tend to make an educated person sound like an idiot.

Precisely.

It doesn't seem like OP understands that the people that like Yahtzee's style are generally like-minded people. You know, jerks. Therefore, one can reason that Yahtzee attracted a lot of jerks (like myself) to this site.

I will admit, however, that my reviewing style is influenced by Yahtzee to a degree, but I'm constantly trying to avoid drawing a parallel.

Mr. Poster-Man, you fail to see my point.
You have admitted channeling Yahtzee, yet condemned my belief that posters... Channel Yahtzee.
Just because Yahtzee is a likable fellow does it mean that copy cats are any less excused?

Allow me to make a parallel. I dont like Bob Marley, yet i respect him. He made music with heart. However when i see a high school drop out with massive dreads who idolizes Marley, i cant help but get mad at him for his lack of originality. When someone is doing something, and they are wearing a shirt that states as much, i feel they are trying to hard. Therefore, to come to a site where the most popular attraction is a vulgar fast talking British/Australian man, and then mimic his style, it just strikes as a little hollow.

Just because he hates fanboys does not mean hes unable to catch some on the cuff of his jeans while he strolls through the humor centers of our brains.
