Seems like your poll is figuring out how many people on this forum are male.

But anyway. I'm female, 32, and have never had piercings.

I think trying to fit in with the crowd by harming or mutilating yourself is a pretty dumb decision, and I think that I'd pass that feeling along to my kids if I ever have any. But that being said:

1. A girl getting pierced, once she's old enough to choose it for herself? Fine.

2. A little baby getting pierced, because her mom wanted her to look a little cuter than she already was - at the cost of pain that the baby can't even understand?

Lady, you disgust me. You don't deserve a kid.

Reminds me of those puppies in Black Beauty who got their ears cropped.

3. A boy getting pierced, once he's old enough to understand the ramifications? Well... okay.

But while our culture sees a girl with pierced ears as normal, that's not how our culture sees a boy with pierced ears. So a boy needs a higher standard of "informed consent."

4. Piercings in other visible places? Be informed!

You're branding yourself in a certain way, and limiting your job opportunities (and more). So I think you shouldn't be allowed to do this before you're at least 16 (old enough to care about job opportunities).

Also: A classmate in college took her new belly-button piercing into a hot tub... and ended up in the hospital. That's an open wound that shouldn't be exposed to germs, people!

5. Personally? I wouldn't date a man with a pierced ear. In my family's culture, a pierced ear means slavery. And for me it means "girly," and I wouldn't want a girly man.

I don't think I could ever get past these two instinctual reactions, so that's that.

Female, no, and 24. I'm too lazy and don't care enough about my appearance to indulge in jewelry.

Male, 15, no.

The bassist in my school big band and combo swallowed a lip piercing once... didn't look fun.
Ugh. Was he/she okay?
Well, after failing to vomit it up, the bell rang and he went to the hospital. He was back by the end of the day and was fine. Never got the whole story.

Not sure how to respond to your poll. Your question is in the present and my ears aren't pierced anymore, but have been. The holes have since grown shut.

Anyway: Male and 24. Pierced 16-19.
Really? They shut? I had my left ear pierced when I was young (my choice), I might put a thing in for christmas, but that's it and it is still open (or at least it was last christmas). Also, male and 17.
I'm no doctor, so I can't tell you why mine shut and yours didn't, but it is true. Maybe it depends on how big the holes are? I just got earrings with the tiny metal bit to keep them in place. I'm afraid I can't tell you how long it took for the holes to close, because I didn't notice it at the time. Only years later did I realize they were closed.

EDIT: Just a tick. You got pierced young. Maybe your body grew into the shape. I was already fully grown when I got pierced.

Male, no, but I was thinking about it. I just can't think of anything that wouldn't look dumb as hell on me.

Never appealed, and I think those ear-plug things are pretty disgusting, especially after seeing one burst in the case of my friend's stupid emo brother.

Didn't mind it on my most recent ex-girlfriend, but she just had small ones, not the ridiculous enormous ones.

I'm 22, by the way.

I don't have any tattoos, either. Might get one when the degree's over, mind. So... three weeks? Upper arm.

I'm female, 19, and yes. Plus a navel piercing as well.

I can't even remember when I got my ears pierced... I was probably around 8 or so. But too young to remember.

Male Age 18

Ear pireced? Nope

I don't have the tolerance for pain that would be required to get them done.

No the only reason I would get them pierced is if I were planning on wearing earing's. Which i'm not (I think I would look really stupid with earing's).

I'm male, 35, and I don't have my ears pierced, but I do have my nipples pierced if that counts for anything.

Male, 17, no.

I'm not interested in piercings despite my family's love of them, my younger brother has three piercings, my mother has many, and my father has two. I just... don't want a piercing, theres really not much else to it.

Male 18, no. I've never ever understood why any guy would want their ears pierced, but if they do, more power to them.

It's pretty hot if you have a nice chest imho...so I guess that's something.
