Poll: As a Gamer, are you Insulted by GameCrush

Ok So GameCrush went down yesterday due to a server overload (10,000 hits in 5 minutes) which obviously means it's publicity machine has worked, but really as gamers are we really that shallow? and so bad with the opposite sex that we need to pay GameHookers to come and help us spend time with them?

The Poll has been split out by Gender to give an idea of how each has reacted. I have not seen the site properly but assume that there is no option currently to rent GameGigolos for the ladies to play with

Yup... It's pretty pathetic, and I do feel quite offended by it. Talk about demoralising us and painting us out to be sad losers who struggle in real life relationships.
Although... sadly those figures seem to suggest we really are, which is even more depressing unto itself.

A dating site for gamers? Sure, I wouldn't really say anything about that... but GameCrush seems..Neh. I haven't read what the site itself says, but i'll just quote from geekologie where I first heard about it "For a minimum wage-y $6.60 you can play 10 minutes of XBox Live with a scantily clad strumpet via webcam."

I mean, come on? That's just...sad.

I get the feeling that - hopefully the 10,00 request are people who just want to see whats goin on there. I admit that I am intrigued as to the Girls on there and what the deal actually is but I would never actually consider paying to spend time with a girl (except for beer money) and I am offended that a company beleives that the community is this sad and desperate.

Lots of women are playing facebook games like Farmville on a regular basis, along with MMOs. And guys play a lot of... online games, period. At first it sounds weird, but when you think of it, it makes common sense this would happen.

Find a game that has middle-ground appeal with both sexes, add options to intentionally allow people to flirt (and be aware they're being flirted with) with, I hope, strict modding, and you've got a winner.

I'm not offended at all. I think it's genius. I won't be doing it myself mind you.

EDIT: Oh, right, it's not gaming girls, but just some kind of strippers they've found from the porn industry or something? Ok, that changes my mind a bit.

Then again, how is this any different from many live cam porn sites apart from it's targeting a more specific audience?

Now I looked into it I am quite offended that this even exists. I play Rock Band, Borderlands and RE5 with one of my best female friends most days. It's not that hard to find girls that play video games. I hope it's not just me...

Doesn't effect me, i don't play it. If you do, i hope you like it.
It's only the same as other services like Netflicks and MSN on your console, just another way of spending time.

Bit sad that people need to do it though. I might call myself a handsome chappy, but the best way to get with girls is to be friends face to face.

Dating sites charge, MMOs charge, porn charges, dating itself costs money. Combine all and you've got a fantastic business model, that WILL attract subscribers.

well general live cam porn is (imho) a little creepy at the best of times, but to me that is not the issue. The issue comes when companies are assuming that gamers are going to want/need this stuff more than anyone else.

and if it was meant to be pornographic....welll it must be tough to keep your dps up while trying to keep something else up

I am fairly offended by the existance of it, but the sad thing is that we all know that some people are actually going to use it. Looking at a few videos on Youtube, some gamers (though I don't like to call them that) are quite pathetic individuals in some way or another. This site's existance therefore isn't all that surprising.

I find the whole thing really creepy. If I'm reading this right, guys have the option to just... play games with the girl? Why don't you just go out and meet some friends that'll play with you for free? Join a renowned dating site so you can find someone meaningful if you're having so much trouble? And then there's some saucy variant for what I assume is phone/cyber sex.

This is really is hammering negative male AND female stereotypes home, isn't it? I can't help but feel offended when girls are getting so objectified and paid money for indulging Mr. Lonely Internet Man's strange whims. We're not a dangerous mythical creature that you cannot approach in real life. We won't even charge $6.60 to be friends.
