You know...AC1 was one of those games I love warts and all. Yes, the side-jobs were repetitive and also annoying. Yes, a super-fly assassin with unbelievable dexterity who can't swim is a bit unbelievable. But there's something about the act of leaping down from a particularly high building and knifing some guy in the face that cancels out any negativity and just makes me want to give the game a great big hug. This is the sort of game that reminds me why I play games...sheer, mind-numbing entertainment. The details in the game were the kicker. Like the voices of the public saying "Why is he doing that? There's no logical reason for him to do that" whenever you climb a building in front of them. That tongue-in-cheek humor nesting side-by-side with stealth gameplay...yes. This is what I love in a game.
So all things considered, I'm pretty psyched about AC2. And if the jobs system has been reworked, I'll be thrilled. Of course, the cynic in me keeps whispering how you can't strike gold twice, and whatever flaws the new game fixes will soon be overshadowed by errors they should have avoided. But shush, right now I want to be an optimist. I think/hope this game will rock, and Ubisoft will be hearing from me if it doesn't.
