Well, if it does have it in, then it has it in the game. If it doesn't, then it wont have it in the game.

I understand this issue is a bit touchy, but having it in/out of AC3 isn't going to make or break the game.

And what exactly are you implying with this statement? That since it is being developed in Canada by an international team that it will miss the mark?

I would place my bets on it being glossed over somewhat. Having said that, they do seem to be willing to get into the dirty details relating to the less 'noble' side of the founding fathers, so we'll see.

I don't remember them doing so, even with the stuff they dared mention they had to be very apologetic about so people didn't get too upset.

So you can fully expect this to gloss over anything that might ruffle feathers.
Well, it plays up the fact that religion is a big ol' dirty con and a power game. Yes, it goes head-first into Sci-Fi to do so, but the parallel is pretty obvious.

Political issues? Not so much, I guess.

How was it a major issue between the Americans and British? Both societies still held both slavery and the slave trade as legal.

Besides which, slaves were never that widespread in the American north, where the game takes place. Slavery was mainly used in the south, on cotton and tobacco plantations.

Either way some one is not going to be happy. If it portrays it as it was, some will go "You can't show horrible things like that in a game."(we all know that age limitations and warning sings do not actually work) or if there isn't any or very little of it another will go "Why it is not portrayed as it was!"

But since I am from a nation that hasn't had history with slavery as it is normally portrayed I know I wont pay much notice to it, and especially since I've long ago adopted a mindset of "Those were the habits of the time, no reason to work myself up because of it." when it comes to history.

Well Ubisoft said it is in the game, that they are not going to shy away from it, and that it is a subject that must be handled with a certain amount of respect. So possibly.

It's covering of christianity (particularly catholic, most noteably in ACII) was quite brutal.

My younger up-bringing included church and (would you guess? catholic) christianity; though I haven't practiced in a long time so my knowledge is hardly strong.

In what I found to be a case of stunningly obnoxious blasphemy; there's a character in Ezio's group of allies in ACII; a prostitute who runs a brothel, yet does so while wearing a nun's habit. She flatly shrugged off the idea of a contradiction between her conduct and her practice of faith (her own sexually-based derivative) to the same god.

All I can say in response to that, is that she is poorly studied.

I doubt it will come up much.

If it does, it will just be in a, "Slavery is BAD, m'kay" sort of way.
There's no other way to view it imo.
But it is reductive. I would rather prefer they don't go there than do it and being out of character about it. We all know slavery was practiced then, but it wasn't an issue. Not bringing it up (other than having a "slave" pedestrian type in the cities) is better than having people known for having slaves go "poor people, I wish I could do something about them".

Unfortunately, nothing I have seen so far makes me think Ubisoft is doing anything but the politically correct route (despite the "different cultures" disclaimer). And, to be clear, British and wild bears are not "different allegiances"...

It should, but I doubt it'll be a prevalent topic, maybe getting glanced over, if that.

I'm willing to bet the British will be purely evil and want to enslave everyone who isn't milk white, whilst the Americans all have modern sensibilities.

Part of the climax will be George Washington duelling King George III on top of the White House construction site.

We don't talk about slavery here in Quebec, so probably not. Even though the games take place in the US, I doubt they'll touch the subject.

At this point in history, slavery in America was not as much of an issue (as in no one in America would have cared about their rights and there weren't very many of them in the colonies). Historically speaking, it just won't come up.

That said, here in Canada (at least in Ontario), especially in the school system, we kind of militantly abhor slavery, so I wouldn't be surprised if they include an anachronistic "slavery is bad" message.

So, to answer the poll, I doubt it'll be included, but if it is, I doubt it'll be properly addressed.

I think it will be addressed. How well? I don't know. There were people speaking out against slavery at the time. Quaker John Woolman traveled all around the colonies in the mid-1700's to preach against slavery. He didn't have very much success in general, but did convince other Quakers to take a firm stance against it (they eventually petitioned Congress to abolish slavery in the very late 1700s). I doubt that Quakers will have much (if any) presence in the game, though.

What? No. I am implying that since it is being made in Canada by an international team that they could actually try tackling the topic appropriately, despite the triple-A status of the game.

Well, considering the time period of the game and the state of slavery practices in the area that is going to be the central grounds of the game (to be more specific: indentured servitude, non-generational slavery of African persons unless on a plantation being more common, and the North colonies which did not have nearly as many slaves at the South colonies nor most of the hallmarks of later slavery practices, which are often cited as the most horrendous), I am thinking they will not give a full address of slavery practices. I would expect them to possibly venture into the attempted enslavement of the Native Americans (which did not go well) which was more common in that area (alongside an extensive indentured servitude structure) than the importing of African slaves in that area at the time.
