Okay, now I know that this is a weird question. But recently, almost all my friends purchased Assassin's Creed II, and loved it. They soon encouraged me to purchase it. Which I did.

Now, being a huge fan of the original, I had high expectations of this game. And after having read reviews on the internet, I honestly expected it to beat the original game by a mile.

But. When I actually played the game, got through all the introduction, and actually entered the Animus 2.0, I could help but feel a little bit disappointed. We were introduced to an extremely unlikable character called Ezio, who almost everybody loves. Why, I don't know. But the fact is, I much prefer the character of Altair.

While it's true that Altair started off unlikable, he soon was knocked off his high perch, and he then had to earn the respect of everyone. With Ezio, he already has respect, so he remains the same kind of tosser throughout the game.

I know that this is only a minor complaint, but I have others too. Such as, the environments in AC1 were so atmospheric, and beautifully crafted, that the way that the major Italian cities are created in AC2 feels like a step back. They all feel pretty generic, and the atmosphere is often nowhere near as good as AC1.

Don't get me wrong, AC2 isn't a bad game. I mean, it removed all the side-mission rubbish from the original, and some of it is still pretty fun to play. But to be honest, I'll stick with the first.

AC1 all the way.

But that's probably because I loathe Assassins Creed 2 while not remembering anything from the first game other than that it is in Israel during the crusades, which happens to be my favorite time-period.

Give Ezio time. He may seem an annoying prick in the first hour or two, he really hits his prime when you get in, especially in Venice.

Well I just started it.

I can share your view on the cities, they are not as spectacular in my opinion as in the first game.

I'll get back to you when I actually get a knife or something....

Me too.

I think people like Ezio much more because he actually seems like a more genuine person then Altair. Yeah he's kind of cocky and seems a little immature at times, he's not a stony hollow entity like Altair. I just put it to the historical settting of the times, people of the Rennaisance were alot more open about things and not as.... serious, about things as people of the Crusades.

That and Ezio just dresses sharper.

The second game, simply because it took all the good points about the first game and improved on it.

I do agree that Ezio is more of a person than Altair, but I found that Altair was someone who you could implement your personality into, rather than having it created for you. This meant that I found AC1 a bit more immersive.

Can someone please explain to me why I was put on probation for that post. All I did was agree with him and I didn't want to write the same thing so I just put "this^". I don't remember that in the rules...

AC 2 all the way. A bigger and better cast of characters, more interesting design and just, well, more of it to enjoy.

Plus, less grindy grindy repetition.

Yup.

Ezio's a bit of a player when he's younger, but he's infinitely more likable than Altair (I liked his character development, but it wasn't enough).

Besides, you sound like you've only played an hour or 2 of a 30 hour game.

I started out thinking that way, until the end of the game, when he suddenly developed a personality (though the personality was atleast a likeable one, much like Ezio's final one). The one thing that Ezio has over Altair though is that he interacts with more than just 2 people and his targets and does so with a personality that changes as the years go on.

Adding nothing to the conversation is a big nono.

On topic: AC1 was so horrendously boring and everything I've read about AC2 sounds great. I can't wait for it to come out on PC as I have a beat machine and I shan't waste it by getting the Xbox version.

AC1 was so horrific I get ill thinking about it.

It gets REALLY good in Venice. Ezio isn't as likable as I'd thought he'd be, but he at least:

grows a beard at the end.
