Mmm while I do dismiss you view on video games being bad but on the other hand I can get where you are coming from. By all mean I got friends who are into video games but I have avoided social gathering so that I can continue to play my game. Whether this is good or bad is up to me so all I can say is that I embrace my gaming life.

Somehow I got the feeling that you think you can have one or the other; that is video games or "mature" soical group/girlfriend. That's wrong. My bet is you enjoy a lot of things besides video games certain books, movies, music, sports. And yet there isn't an age limit on any of those. As somebody before me pointed out this is a new media and there's bound to be a lot of misunderstanding. Also you can always use that "boys and their toys" argument. I tend to agree that us men never outgrow playing with toys, we just replace them with bigger and more expensive playthings :p

And to answer your question no it never becomes sad. As long as you enjoy it it doesn't really matter what anyone says. If your group doesn't approve you can always tease them about being narrow minded or tell them to kindly fuck off. There's always Escapist.

I didn't say video games are bad.. I love video games. The people around me don't like video games and are more into other things (I'm not allowed to say the sex/girl words or I will get abused) which leads me to question whether or not I should or shouldn't be liking video games for my age. I would say a large portion of video gamers would of questioned at one stage whether or not they are to old for video games.. even if it was just a glimpse of thought..

It's a common misconception that video games are an illegitimate, immature guilty pleasure that stops when you "grow up".

Most people who think so are hypocrites, because they are the ones who are sitting in front of their television for three to six hours a day. They are the ones who are talking on their phones for hours a day. They are the ones who need an unlimited text and internet plan because they sit at their desk texting and watching stupid youtube videos all day. They are the ones who spend five hundred dollars on a pair of high heels or a tuxedo, thinking that their "grown up" activities are sanctified by traditional values. They are the ones buying thousands of dollars worth of alcohol. -That- is certainly okay, because you have to be a -real- grown up not to throw up after too many glasses of that expensive champagne, right?

No.

Every generation and every person has their own personally approved entertainment, mature or otherwise. Don't hate.

I'm almost 35 and I still love video games, almost as much as when I was a kid. I'll never be too old.

Oh yeah, and I'm a girl too.

Well, at what age is it sad to enjoy books or movies or music?

Games are there for our entertainment and enjoyment, and I'll be playing them until I physically can't. If I decide that I want to spend my free time on some video games after working 6 days a week, I will, and no one can say a thing about it.

I also voted wrong. I hit "You are a loser if you like video games" instead of "It's never lame to like video games". My bad.

There's nothing wrong with doing something you enjoy. If you have fun playing with dolls when you're 62, then more power to you.

Just don't go near my children you dirty old man!

But yeah seriously, if you enjoy something, it's not lame. People just jump to conclusions too fast that certain things are for kids.

SNIP -- (or in the case of female gamers, play a lot less up to the point of no return).
What does that mean? I'm not trying to cause trouble, I just don't understand the statement.

OP - I'm in the "never too old to enjoy games" group.

I don't see that it should ever become "sad". Video games are not childrens toys - some are, obviously. But mature rated games are made for adults.

I run a fanfic forum, and one of our newest members is an Indian woman who is 52 years old. Is that sad? No, that's pretty cool.

Oh look, who would have guessed that on a gaming site a poll for 'when does play games become sad' over 905 for the people voting clicked never . . .

There are people who are sports, music, books, art, writing, sewing, history enthusiasts until they're old and dying, so why should games be any different? I believe that there is no age where liking video games is sad. It's entertainment, and why wouldn't you want to be entertained by something that you enjoy?

Play games, and play the games that you like--even if you're playing Pokemon at 60.

That's like saying you're growing out of reading books, listening to music, or watching movies. It's an entertainment medium that is tailored to people of all ages from all different backgrounds.

Umm, never?
If you like something, you like it what sad about that? Is there some sort of set age on some books of law in which it states after X age you need to be sad and miserable to enjoy games. Hell my WoW guild had people from 18 (me as youngest) to whiskey who's the oldest and hes 61...

Just to give same kind of question here.
When are you old enough to enjoy video games. When are you too young to enjoy sex? When are you too young to like smoking or drinking? When are you too old to like cartoons? When are you too young to like books? (I guess books don't count, because they are Books, a "sacred" and divine creation of absolute and pure entertainment and sophistication, or thats what they say -.- ... It can be only positive to read books, but games, movies and pop music is ALWAYS bad)

Obviously once you stop being a teen, you have to stop liking childish things like video games, and start liking things like violent action movies, watching huge muscly men punch each other repeatedly, watching semi-obese men run in to each other to catch a ball...yeah, the point is that if you're grounded in reality, then (To paraphrase XKCD) you are an adult, and you get to decide what that means. I think that over 25 or so, it would be GOOD if you expand to playing games with certain more mature elements. But not doing so does not make you childish.
