It depends on my adversary. In a PvAI RTS match defense has never failed me. I take great pleasure in positioning my towers, stationing response and conctainment forces at critical points along the walls, locating choke points and setting ambushes, and in AoE2 at least I find that my trade routes are often the most interesting battlefields in the game.
I imagine facing a more adaptable and better informed opponent( I.E. player) defense would be insuficent to gain victory.

In FPS I enjoy camping, but I find that running and gunning leads to a more interesting and fast paced game. So while I naturally defend, I take greater pleasure in the assault.

RPG, I don't think defense has ever been something I've had to face. Maybe facing wave after wave of enemies, but not tactical defense.

They say that it is best in life to crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and hear the lamentations of their women. I prefer to crush my enemies, see them driven towards me, and hear the admirations of my women.

I am good with setting up ambushes and the like.
every commi is, even idealist ones.

OT: Attack all the way man, why stand still and shoot when you can move and shoot!
Because you are more accurate and have cover?
REAL men can dodge bullets!
and who cares about accuracy when you can shoot more bullets?
(no I am not that good at Battlefield, I do kick arse at Borderlands)

I like attack. It lets me slow down, examine the enemy's strategy, make a plan, then try it out. If it fails, then no big deal. I don't have that much of a time limit, I'll just try something else....'

But on defense, If you screw up, then BOOM: The enemy has the control point, they have your flag, they've set up the bomb in your base and I'm pretty shure I've been shot.

Defense... but also very aggressive. You know: the best defense is a wall of horrible mutilated corpses at your border *g*.

Attacking is a lot more fun when you have a team to get your back. But lets say I am playing a strategy game 1v1, I have a tendency to turtle which I deliberately try to stop myself from doing.

When you break the line, it's just that much more satisfying. Of course, I'm speaking from a FPS standpoint. I'm far more defensive when it comes to RTS. RPGs are down the middle for me.

I like to attack. Slowly drain their supplys and troops so that their ablity to "dig in" is offset by my now larger numbers.

In shooters and RTS's i prefer defense. But if I'm playing an RPG--JRPG or WRPG--I'm always the reckless type.

I like to be on the offensive, but in a defensive way.

Not running and gunning. No, that always gets me killed. I prefer to sneak into the enemy base and set up sentrys. Or, sneak in and get one or two enemies when they aren't looking. In games like halo, I often sneak into the enemy base, steal their tank/banshee and flee, using it against them on my way back to my base.

The only exception to this is in RTS games. My strategies don't carry a team, they merely strengthen our side by just a bit and weaken their side by just a bit. Without a team to actually do stuff, my strategies result in a huge amount of fail.

As a result, when I'm playing AoE for example, I end up turning entire forests into several layers of walls and outposts. It's not turtling per se... just building so many layers of crap for the enemy to go through that I have time to build my army up to my population limit before attacking.

I thoroughly enjoy both. Defending is fun because of the rush you get from holding off hordes of enemies. Attacking is fun because of such strategies as ninja plants and 'Zerg Rushing' hard to defend area's. In MW2, I even have classes devoted to attacking and defending in the demolition gamemode.

It depends on if I get vehicles and support, but most of the time I'm going to want to defend. Unless it is an RTS, in that case I'd rather attack.

Defending is always easier, since you basically just need to camp.

I much prefer defending.
The ultimate test of strategy, how long can your limited forces last against a (sometimes numerically superior) foe.

I`m usually the attacking guy, u'll always see me getting the flag or planting the bomb. I follow the saying "A good attack is a great defense".

depends on the game and the map.

I mostly prefer attacking as a form of defense, to keep them from being too expansive and basically keeping them in one area. Keep pushing them further and further

In RTS games, I take pride in setting up a massive defensive formation, be it buildings or troops. With a solid supply of resources it's possible to outlive most things.

However, there's nothing like that brilliant feeling when you destroy a well-fortified defense as a Spy in TF2.

A good enough defence always wins, simply because if you can hold your opponent's attack you can always find a hole and then strike back at them... then chase them down... then grab the bodies and stick em in a blender...
