Wet and Oblivion had bad voice acting, but they were both pretty good, especially Oblivion. If it's a good game, and bad voice acting is it's only flaw, i'll still buy.
Oblivion wasn't necessarily bad voice acting there was just only about 15 voices distributed around a map the size of a small island
Yes, because the voice actors sounded really into what they were doing, hmm?

I guess the distribution is the biggest flaw, but they could have put more effoort into sounding remotely involved in their character.

yeah I suppose your right, but I didn't really focus too much on what the non-story important NPCs said, and every so often you could loose your self in the soft dreamy tones of Sean Bean..

Nothing can beat Deus Ex for terrible voice acting [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kihGm4KfY7k]. I love the game to pieces, but the Hong Kong levels had the worst Chinese accents I've ever heard.

I actually turned off the voices for Dragon Quest VIII. It didn't make me stop cuz I could toggle it.

OK, let's face it. Voice acting has been existent in games for a long time. From what I remember even the first System Shock and Sam & Max: Hit the Road had voice acting (just in their cd versions).

It's been about 15 years since the release of both aforementioned games. And despite that, there are still voice acting "gems" around. Games that potentially rival the first Resident Evil, House of the Dead 2, the first Silent Hill, etc.

My question is: Have you played any game that had voice acting so bad you just stopped playing it for a while or completely? Or did you just mute the voices? Or you just didn't bother?

For me it would have to be the introduction of the Valkyrie Profile. It almost stopped me from progressing into the game. Thank god it doesn't have voice acting for all its dialogues.

P.s. For those of you who want to hear some of those "gems", here. [http://www.audioatrocities.com/]
If the voice acting is that bad,I just start to use the *skip* button. If the game has a lot of long, unskippable cutscenes, then I'm quitting the game for that reason.

I neve stop playing a game because bad voice acting but sometimes it can totally ruin the atmosphere and tone for me, such as a laughable voice acting can give a dark and serious game a comedic feeling such as Silent Hill for example.

I think Oblivion suffers from this the most, but its too good of a game to just put down. So the bad voice acting just discouraged me, but didnt stop my playing.

I found Jansen from Lost Odyssey incredibly annoying. Until I changed the voice-acting to Japanese. T'was a great day.

Eternal Sonata. It wasn't the voice acting so much as it was the actual dialogue. It was so over the top pseudopoetic, that I couldn't play it. EVERYTHING had to be wise words of beauty. Horrible, horrible...

OT: I never quit a game for voice acting because I have a solution. Subtitles and the magical mute button. But the worst I have encountered was probably Mirror's Edge. It wasn't the worst but I can't say it was good either.

The voice acting for most of Call of Duty:World At War is pretty bad (esp. for the multiplayer announcers), but by far the worst I've heard is for two History Channel games: Civil War and Battle For Iwo Jima.

The only game I had to stop playing wasn't just because of the voice acting, but holy shit was it bad. Two Worlds, probably one of the most broken games I have ever played. This game also had the worst voice acting ever as well.

I've never heard the word mayhap so much in my life and it made me want to stab things.

What makes me really angry is that a second one is being made.
