I apologize.
Well, thank you. Still I politely disagree, but after playing a little more Arkham Asylum today I see what people are getting at: the combat is a lot less frustrating, but I like AC's more open-ended approach just slightly more. In AA it's clearly defined what you're meant to do in each section as far as either combat or stealth: AC often lets you decide that for yourself.

I think Batman: AA deserved all the praise it got, but looking back, it was a touch repetitive at times. I think I probably didn't notice it much the first go around because I was having so much fun. Every time I got to fight a gaggle of thugs, I was enjoying every minute of it, and by the time it was over, I was already looking forward to fighting the next crop, even they were essentially the same thugs copied and pasted from the previous room. This is, to me, a testament to AA's greatness; even when it's just the same old stuff over and over again, it's so much damn fun that I don't even really mind.

That said, I think the game really opens up towards the end. When you start out, you're pretty much limited to straight-up fisticuffs or stealth takedowns to finish off thugs. Later on, though, you start getting some delightful little toys that let you take them down with a bit more creativity.

My favorite method? Spray some explosive gel on the floor, grapple up to a safe spot, then throw a Sonic Batarang at the spot where the gel is. When thugs start gathering around the Batarang and the gel, boom! The room is cleared and people got hurt. Win win.

I feel that I may be a bit biased considering it was my favorite game of all time, but.....

It`s a good game , it just doesn`t have any replay value , a worryingly common problem these days , i agree with your point that`s it`s not a 90% game , it certainly desrves high 70`s maybe up to mid 80`s , but some of the praise is ridiculous , the bane fights become more and more of a chore as time goes on , and beyond the brilliant thrid section , the scarecrows bits are really quite averege i enjoyed the interview tapes however , great fun listening to them.

I agree that it was overrated. I mean the production values were all spot on. It just failed me in the gameplay dept. Especially in the combat and boss fights. The stealth aspects were really well done and I came close to enjoying them. I just don't like stealth aspects in games when I don't have a choice in the matter.

Because we finally got a good Batman game.
The story, was a great take on the comics and had alot of interesting cameos.
The melee system was fucking fantasic, It gave you the Batman feeling after taking out dozens of guards without getting a scratch.
It also had some fairly well done Detective sequences. I thought the boss battles were quite fun (Yes, even the Joker one).
All of that and the Scarecrow seqeunces...that shit was golden.
I'd agree, but I'd also say that it deserves its praise for the fact that it's one of the first games in a very very long time to put an emphasis on creative problem-solving rather than jumping through the designers' hoops. My thoughts are that if you didn't have fun with the stealth segments it was your own fault for not trying to enjoy yourself, experimenting and toying with the inmates and all that and just trying to get them over with as quickly as possible. I really liked taking my time with those segments and could even replay them, just enjoying the freedom its system afforded me. I'll grant that the variety is for the most part pretty low, but come on, it's Batman, not Kingdom Hearts. If you expected to be beating up aliens or something you kind of bought the wrong game.

Yeah, yeah... that's great and all, but I was sort of looking for reasons WHY.
I my humble opinion i think it's fantastic and here is a list of a couple reasons why:

Fantastic fight system, i enjoyed how it was basic and fluid but looked very stylish. Normally on a game when i press only a couple of buttons i'm doing the same repetative looking action over and over, but on this game it looked, essentially, cool. Look at Assassins creed, that combat is very slow and in my personal opinion pretty damned boring when you realise it's all just 'counter', but with Batman your jumping around smashing skulls like a maniac.

following on from this, the learning curve from knowing the buttons to mastering it was for me great. We all knew how to fight within 10 mins, yet it took time to master how to counter at the right time and get all those cool moves into one continious free flowing punch up. It's one of the few games which i think has fully realised the 'easy to learn hard to master' ideal. Following on from this, you feel like batman during combat so plus points their.

Voice acting was also superb, they script was great aswell mind.

The story was interesting, at least interesting enough that i was intrigued by what was going to happen which normally for quite a few games you kind of cease to care after a while. But this kept me engaged and excited, always throwing something new into the mix.

The looks of the game were great too, as well as the stealth portions of the game.

I will however point out a couple problems. detective mode is overrated, it was a simple process of FLASH lots and you'll get it eventually, no real detective work was ever needed. at all. combined with this, i wish when just working around the asylum i could use the stealth option more, instead of pre selected places in the story.

But i do agree with the consensus that this game was awesome, it's the first game i have got all the achievements for since buying an xbox about 2-3 years ago.

You wont get any, I don't think.
It's just squeelish fan boy drool.

I enjoyed the game, it was fun. It is also terribly average.

You wouldn't happen to be a Modern Warfare 2 fan would you?
For one: No. It was playable, but I'm not an online junkie so I didn't think it was amazing or anything.

For two: Why does that matter?

Yeah, I came to realise this around about five replies in. Everyone seems to love this just because it's got the Batman in.

Well, whoopdy-fucking-do. It must be a masterpiece or something.

Its fun. Its overrated too. I thought the game was forced. You couldn't sneak in a situation where the game wanted you to fight and vice versa.

I liked it, despite its flaws and that little issue where (if you stand still) the spikes on batman's right glove go through his cape.

The story kept me playing but I was disappointed to find out that after the ultra batclaw, the only other gadgets I got were multi-batarangs and sonic batarangs...
which both had to be upgraded, meaning I had to choose them over something like upgraded combat or explosive gel abilities.
When it comes to bossfights... some of them could have been realistically cut down (I.E Poison Ivy, that fight got boring when the gel didnt blow her out first time) and the bane/mutant thing fights felt like excuses to give you achievements with mutant-rodeo and combo related names.

On the working side, graphics were great with my new card with all settings on high and anti-aliasing on about 8x i think.
The game did crash, however, when I tried to use the benchmark feature in the game.

I tried the demo and after using the bat-vision that illuminates enemies in red even if they are behind doors/round corners I had to ask myself if I would ever turn that mode off and thus would be playing the game in red skeleton/fuzzyvision. Found it a bit off-putting to be honest.

a man in a desert, who sees a simple glass of water, will say that water is heaven's ambrosia.

I'm not going to elaborate that metaphor anymore, but I personally loved the game except for one thing - the bosses. Most of them sucked.
