Now let me expand on this, first of all I feel the need to let you know that this is not a popularity contest. It's not who do you like more, it's who would win in a scrap, brawl or other synonym for fight. Let's just say they both think each other is the enemy and they start a fight.

Now I can't stress the importance of this matter enough :p Back story approaching....
(Not reaaaally important to poll). Now I don't know how this came up, nor do I know why it hasn't been settled but we're actually about to go up in arms over this.. xD The odds are against me, because I chose Batman and it seems like everyone I ask is for Spiderman. I ask my friends, most of them say Spiderman, I ask anyone showing the slightest bit of intelligence, they say Batman (Not that I'm assuming only smart people know Batman would win [I So am])And since I deem the escapist forumers quite intelligent, I figured why not ask it here.

TL;DR Who would win in a throwdown? Batman? Or Spiderman?

{EDIT} Ok, I feel the need for some discussion value, so please state a reason, if you can.

I don't think you could compare them, Batman doesn't have superpowers. He's strong, fast, a good fighter and smart but no superpower.

If he could make some sort of suit attachment or weapon [like the Green Goblin or Doc Oc] then I think he would win if it were effective.

I would have to go with Batman. Sure Spidy webs are sticky and tough but I think Batman can easily cut his way out. While Spidy got his spide sense to dodges his attacks but I think Batman can be unpredictable enough to suprise Spidy himself.

This is harder than it looks, but it really comes down to ONE thing.

Can batman disable Spideys spidey sense? If yes, then Batman wins. If no, then spiderman wins.

Batman is HIGHLY trained and extremely smart, but have no superpowers. While Spiderman is not stupid, hes FAR from Batmans intellect. Spider man however is faster and stronger and can sense danger. In a straight out fight spider man would win. If Batman can fix spider mans sense somehow, the fight turns around and Batman wins because of 100000000000000000 plans and gadgets at his disposal. He's just too smart.

Batman is cooler then Spiderman. And we want to root for the guy who is badass without powers, particularly because he is highly intelligent. But in a fight, Spiderman is many, many times stronger, faster, more agile, and supernaturally aware of danger. And however awesome the idea of the savvy opponent beating the tougher one is, Spiderman can block a punch from Batman and shatter his arm. Or swing circles around a mostly ground based opponent.

Of course this is a straight up fight. Should Batman have time to prepare, study, come up with a plan, choose his battleground, set traps, sow misinformation yada yada yada, call it an even matchup. Batman gains a huge advantage in that case, but in terms of physical abilities, it still might as well be a 3 year old fighting Brock Lesnar.

Batman would have something prepared. He'd have a deciy that would sitract Spideys spider sense. Like a grenade that looks like a gun, so that Spidey will take evasive action appropriate to a gun but not a grenade.

I'm not that updated.

But if we're talking about a spider man thats not the traditional spider man then the discussion becomes kinda pointless. At least until we have some more details.

I stand by my initial opinion.

Oh, and the Spider Sense thing. In my reading, the spider sense really isn't that useful for avoiding attacks. Sure, it allows Spider-Man to avoid stuff like gunfire but he always is getting smacked around by Doctor Octopus' arms and so forth. Batman uses tear gas and nets and stuff like that too. Go Batman!

A normal guy or a guy with superpowers...
It's kind of like racing an athlete against a cripple isn't it? Then again, batman has the bat plane... thingy (I don't read comics, sue me).

Actually, on that point, I no longer have any idea what powers or ability any super hero of the western world has any more thanks to all the continuity and reboots and whatnot.

I vote for Batman, because he's never unprepared. He always seems to know what he's doing, always seems cool and... professional.

Spider-Man is a smart lad as well, but it seems to me like he's using his powers first and his brains second. I believe the only real edge he has over Batman are his precognitive abilities and those are very limited.

If Batman has setup time and knows he will be fighting spiderman then it's almost a guaranteed win as batbelt will be loaded with all sorts of goodies to specifically counter spiderman.

Without preparation it's a closer call...

Cthulhu.
Neither of them can defeat Cthulhu.
But Batman would be a close(well, not really) second.

Is this about '60s Batman? If yes, he would definitely win if he doesn't forget his anti-Spiderman-Web-Batspray.
