Hello, everyone. This is my first thread on here, so please be gentle.

I've been thinking: so far as recent releases go, two games which I could call comparable in their roots and tone are the two listed above. Both heavily-based in traditional roleplaying, Fable 2 and Fallout 3 probably represent, between them, the state of current Western (computer) Roleplaying Games. So which represents this ideal most fully? Which the better game?

Over Christmas, I'll probably have to make this choice and I'm stuck. Whereas Fable has a fantasy setting, magic, good vs. evil, colourful graphics and a little doggy; Fallout has a post-apocalyptic, science-fiction setting, big guns, radiation and up-to-the-minute graphics.

I've been leaning towards the former, because I only have one fantasy game for the 360 (Overlord) and my second-newest game is a science-fiction roleplaying game (Mass Effect), though admittedly from a very different section of the genre. I'm also not a huge fan of the grey-brown colour pallet of games with 'better graphics'.

So what do you think? Or am I just rambling again?

Both of them are going to be great I hear. (haven't played either)

Just ask yourself this: would you rather swing a sword, or shoot people in the face?

That's the thing, I love both genres. Although I'm interested in the discussion in general, I have to say I'm looking for anything that might tip the balance either way. So maybe it's a slightly selfish thread. :D

I voted Fallout 3. I'm currently playing through it and can honestly say it's the best new game that I've bought in years. My mate got Fable 2 last week and we've spent some time doing some co-op on it and while it's also a great game, Fallout 3 is better (especially in immersion, setting and execution).

Given that both games allow you to do both, that's not really much of a point of difference.

Fallout 3 is better overall, but Fable 2 has a better dog.

I've only played Fable 2

Voted Fallout 3, because i find fable to be a very rushed game, after you get to the first town you get like 3-5 choices between good and evil deeds throughout, making it feel less and less like a "do what you want"-game and more like "do this and that, while we give you an option every hour to make you think you're in control"-game.

I'm undecided.

Fable 2 is an enjoyable game I like the rpg style elements where you play as the hero, complete quests and slay monsters, but it also has that other side where you can get married, buy properties and interact with your world, the only downside is the conversations choices are usually just between main character's.

Fallout 3 is not a unique rpg but that's not a bad thing since it's got laods of the great aspects I like in rpg's, I loved the gameplay (especially blowing an enemy to pieces in VATs) and the quests and things to do will keeps you occupied for a long time, it's a shame they didn't make the interaction like Fable 2's where you can immerse yourself by buying properties, raising a family and generally living life in the wasteland.

It is however difficult to forget both had numerous glitches and were released in an unfinished state with many integral parts of the game which were promoted that didn't make it into their finished versions.

I had to cut my game purchases down from around 7 to 2 this fall, those 2 games were Warhammer: Age of Reckoning and Fallout 3. Fable 2 was one of the 7 that were deemed not great enough :)

will probably get it around christmas anyway.

Versus threads 're frowned upon 'round this parts 'ere boy.

Can't you just take the games for what you are? What's this "better game" poppycock?

Look, the games are TOTALLY different even if they stand in the same genre, can you compare Half-Life to Call of Duty?
Will you really take the opinion of some random people over the inter-tubes into consideration?

I think you already made your choice and now use this thread as a pretext to further cement the game you went with.

The question here really is, what do you want from an RPG?

Do you want linearity, a moody universe, wonderful character customization with bad class and skill trade offs, or do you want a grim, deviant, immersive RPG with obscure jokes and a depressing universe, with awesome class skills and trade offs?

If the first one seems appealing to you, then go for Fable.
If the second one seems appealing then go for Fallout.

Personally if i was in your situation i would get both.
I didn't mean to cause offense or break any rules. I just am torn between the two. And not everyone can afford to buy every game they want to buy. I'm one of them. That's why the choice. I also wondered whether anyone else had seen similarities between the two. It wasn't meant to be entirely about my purchasing decisions.

fallout3, not into the whole, heres the main quest, but heres another quest you could do and procrastinate doing the real quest because you dont want to beat the game then be bored or find its too hard and end up destroying your game in your frustration
