If you like games like Battlefield, then Origin is no reason to miss on a great experience. Also, Terms of service on Steam say, it has the same rights as Origin to look on your PC.
So aside from that, I don't see what the problem is with Origin, except if you generally dislike programs like Steam and Origin.

So could someone tell me what the big problem is that people have with Origin?
Because I tried it and sure it doesn't really do anything better than Steam but it's not bad.

"Also, Terms of service on Steam say, it has the same rights as Origin to look on your PC."

No, no, no. For the hundredth time, Steam collects the same data, but them collecting it from you is OPTIONAL.

The steam app collects all the data, then you randomly get picked to take part in the hardware or software survey. At that point you decide if you want to supply the data Steam has collected to Valve or not.

With Origin the data is collected and uploaded to EA. The only way to 'opt out' is to not use the system at all. Completely different mentality to the way it is done with Steam.

Also steam render the data they take as anonymous whereas Origin also takes note of your IP address to go with the data.

I love the Battlefield games and have brought and played them all. I was looking forwards to BF3 until I saw that it required Origin to be installed and what the Origin Terms of service were. So now here we are on launch day and I won't be buying the game.

My particular issue with Origin is around the access it has to look around your PC. If the system was like Steam where you could decide whether you wanted to take part in hardware and software surveys, then fine and I would be on Battlefield right now.

So anyway has anyone else forsaken playing Battlefield 3 due to issues or concerns about Origin?
Is the "I don't see anything worth caring about, origin or not" deliberately left out as an option?

Is this thread JUST for people with a genuine interest in the game that is put off by origin alone?

I'm definitely put off by Origin, but I had the same misgivings about GfWL and yet I got bioshock 2. The thing is I really don't see anything particularly special with BF3. BF2 is honestly more than enough and the frostbite engine I feel is quite frankly squandered making beautiful yet boring environments. I'd rather play in a modified Unreal 2.5 engine with a brilliantly realised world like Rapture than a marvellous engine like Frostbite from a design brief of a 2005 b-grade shooter.

It's a GOOD engine, marvellous especially considering scalability, lighting (so important) and destructible environments on such scale but what environments?!?

I was on the fence, but that pushed me over to the not buy section. One because I already have steam and that sucks enough resources as it is. Two because I don't trusts EA to make one that actually works. It wouldn't surprise me if the things would cause my computer to explode with the force of a nuclear weapon. Last, I don't like that they turned it into a web browser game. It might work fine for what it does (though I can't see it working better), but what if I want to play single player and the site is down for maintinence or whatever? I guess I'm screwed.

I might buy it for my ps3 if I buy it. I never liked fps games very much anyway, so if I have to download orgin just to play bf3 I might aswell not buy it on pc.

I think the newly added 'I wasn't going to buy it anyway' option fits your description.

Whatever, just wash your hands.
A combination of orgin along with the weird backend put me off the game, there are plenty of other games coming out this season so I can live without bf3.

No point?

Every company is going to want to be as self-sufficient as possible. The EULA is eyebrow raising and all, but I'm sure the point is to not have to manufacture endless game boxes and discs, and to not have to cut Valve into the profits and play by their rules...the latter probably being of greater significance.

I'm pessimistic about it really, but it could end up being a good thing. I've had to use origin to play Fifa, and it seems as though it's perfectly functional.

If Steam can pull enough resources to have a negative effect on your gaming your rig isn't fit to game on in the first place. Mine has been out of date since the HL2 era but I have no problem with Steam hogging resources.
Oh it runs fine, I'm just not confident in it trying to run another one at the same time, it certainly won't improve performance at any rate. I also worry this will encourage other publishers to make their own DRM services that you have to have to play their games. I know my computer won't run well if it has eighteen of the things trying to run at once. Either way, I still doubt EA could ever make one that works anyway, and I rather not buy a game, no matter how good it is, if I have to spend more time getting it to start than actually playing. But maybe that abomination GFWL has clouded my judgement, I vowed never to buy anything that requires that virus again.

Once EA amended their EULA to not distribute any information gathered all resistance of mine disappeared (the class action thing doesn't apply in Australia as it is against Australian Law, and I expect to see that everywhere anyway). Maybe EA will see all the turn-based strategy games I have and publish more. I do make it a point to always have Steam running in the background when I start Origin though. I suggest you all do the same.

I liked Battlelog during the Beta, I especially liked not seeing any EA challenge everything movies before playing the game.

I don't expect to buy anything from Origin until EA realize that Steam Sales are when most digital purchases are made.

Understandable. So far Origin has worked intuitively and smoothly for me. Nothing like GFWL.

Nope, Origin wasn't the problem for me even though it's pretty bad. My problem was EA itself, who make some stupid fucking decisions. Battle Log pissed me right the fuck off in the Alpha, too. I really wish EA wasn't publicly traded, then they might be less annoying and might not pull so much crap.

I'm still going to buy the game, though. It's a solid game and I respect DICE and the series, I just wish EA didn't have so much control over stuff with it.

Yep, I wasn't that interested in the game to start with but I would have probably still picked it up if it wasn't for Origin.

Wasn't going to buy it anyway. Also, hasn't this thread been done to death. I swear there is at least one of these a week.
