After all these nutters go on about how beer is best served cold, I accidentally drank some room temperature beer, and it led me to the question. WHY do people love beer cold?

I like all my drinks cold. But I have learned to enjoy beer that is not super cold. The flavor doesn't taste as crisp when the beer is warm in my opinion.

There's nothing better than a nice, cold Guinness to compliment the day. I'm not sure why I like it cold, but I do.

i guess beer is best when it is served and consumed cool and not freezing. ice gives me the chillz and if it is warm, sometimes you can't taste the goodness!!! lols! but cool is the best temperature for the beer.

When it's chilled, it's more refreshing! But yes, I will admit that warm beer can be tasty. It all depends on the beer.

i second that, there are some beers that taste awful when warm but good when cold, moosehead is one that comes to mind, it's ok cold but when it's warm it's disgusting and rather skunky

After I play a show, why would I want to drink some piss-warm beer? Are you kidding me? Where's the refreshment in that?

The only way I drink cold beer is when I want to remind myself to get back to trying to write music with my friend, and the cold disgusting drink is a reminder to get back to work. Warm beer is to show a song is ready! It's my reward.

But you can really tell me if you're working your arse off, sweating, dry mouth, you want to drink a pint of warm beer? Also, I find that most of the beers that taste good warm are more expensive than just having a coors or the like.

I don't like warm beer, unless it's some sort of decent ale that's meant to be consumed warmer than your average lager.

I'm sitting here with an ice-cold can of Foster's (yup, that's my NYE celebration, goddamn lack of funds) that I will absolutely have to finish before it warms up.

Bonus 'fun fact': I drink 2 or more litres of Diet Coke a day, nearly always at room temperature. There's very little fridge space when there's seven people sharing.

Well I find that Lite beers taste better warm, while regular beers taste better cold.

As a beer snobby bastard connoisseur I can tell you why people like ice cold beer. Beer tastes bad, and the colder it is the less you actually taste it. However, when you find a high quality beer that isn't pretending to be a pilsner made with corn, there are a variety of different ways to drink them, and in fact, like wine, a lot of high quality beers actually have an optimal temperature. OK, I'm not that stuck up about it, but I know there are a lot of beers better warmer because it brings out the flavor, namely beers that are extremely hoppy (like high hopped IPAs), Belgian trippels (and I think Dubbels too, I can never remember), and beers that have a noticeable fruit flavor. Lighter beers and Oktoberfests, or beers with lots of carbonation, are better cold because it holds the carbonation better, which is what gives it a lot of the flavor.

Don't take my word for it specifically though, experiment for yourself, there are lots of different flavors and types of beers and it's always a good time to find what you like, but remember, everything that is very cold is not necessarily good, you just are tasting it less.

Facts?! In MY internet?!? This should be reported!

But seriously - I like my beer cold, probably because a) I live in a hot climate and b) I often buy cheap beer, which is therefore not that good, and therefore tastes better when I numb my mouth a little. Sounds bad when you put it that way...
