Personally, i really liked Jack, but i admit that his character was occasionally annoying and weird and too over played. Plus

Capt Jack - Would have been more popular if he hadn't been referencing his sexuality every 10 minutes. If he had been played straight (comedy-wise) instead of as a bit of comic relief then I'd have put him in my top 3.

that's a good point, the "hey i'm captain of the innuendo squad look at me!" got old very quickly. which is a shame. he's still entertaining though

Rose, being because I hate Martha and Donna. Martha had no charisma and I felt like she had zero chemistry with the doctor. And Donna was just so fucking annoying!! Rose was the right mix of humor, charisma and depth...in the second series that is.

However, Amy Pond gets half a vote for being damn fit.

I will never forget Rose. I've never quite got over her leaving.

It doesn't help that she was followed by one boring companion and one that I only really started to like in her last few episodes (it doesn't help that I hate Catherin Tate).

That being said Amelia Pond is fast becoming my favourite companion, so much so that she's almost upstaging the doctor at this point. She has everything that Rose had, plus she's a Scottish red head and a stripper. Not only that but she doesn't have the baggage of being a love interest, which always made me groan, more a sex interest, which is brilliant. I doubt that will last long but still, it's great.

Donna is the only new series companion on my top 5 list, which is for a good reason. Jack does rank up there, but only makes it to the top 10.

Most of my favorite companions are classic series. Ace ranks fourth, just above Donna for me. I like Romana II, Sarah Jane, and Zoe more.

Rose is awful and should be forcefed her own mascara. Donna and Amy are my favourites. Definitely agree that Adric is the worst ever.

I have to agree with the Rose part, though I think that Mel ties with Adric for worst companion ever.

Honestly I liked him the best because of how much he developed by the end of the latest season. But why isn't there an option for him?

Well I'll just choose Amy since she's fun. And gorgeous. And hot. Rose on the other hand was an irritating selfish chav.

Of course we all know the best companion that has ever been in Doctor Who is Sarah Jane Smith. On top of that she's appeared in almost every iteration of the show AND is the only companion to have her own spinoff series.

I don't understand why people like Rose so much... The only thing i actually liked about her was her mom, she was fucking hilarius at times, even that she could be very annoying.

My vote goes for Donna, she could be making me laugh in one minute and them make me look sad i another even that "Doctor Donna" thing (which i don't like) could not ruin that.
I also like Amy Pond... She is pretty funny too.

And it's really interesting seeing the opinions of others. As for those commenting on the old series (all two of you thus far):

You know it's bad when you have the majority of the fanbase applauding when you die. And yeah, that was a spoiler. The episode is 30 years old. Spoilers have expiration dates, you know.

Edit: And I find it extremely entertaining that someone actually voted for Mickey. I don't necessarily disagree, but I didn't expect that. Now, if someone votes for Adam, I'll really know that they are just messing with me.

Amy Pond is my favorite, by a mile. I just like the way her character is written, she's the perfect complement for Matt Smith's doctor. For that matter, Matt Smith's first season is my favorite so far, although I liked Tennant's doctor better -- I really wish we could have seen what a primarily Moffat penned Tennant would be like.

I'm not entirely sure who Wilf is, but if he's Donna's Grandpa, I really wish he would get his own season with the Doctor. He could easily edge out Amy as my favorite companion, and I'm being completely serious here. After Amy, my favorite is probably Jack, although it's a tough call between Jack and Donna. I don't recognize Adam, but if he's the guy who was there for one episode before getting dropped off at home with a giant hole in his head, he wasn't really around long enough to even be in the running.

Martha, Rose, and Mickey I didn't especially care for -- I didn't especially care for Billie Piper's acting skills, Mickey, as noted above, did all of his cool stuff after leaving the doctor, and Martha was okay, but she didn't really get good until the last two episodes of her season, whereas Amy, Donna, and Jack were all good from the start.

You know who's missing from the poll? Rory! He's not my favorite companion, but if Mickey counts, Rory definitely does -- Amy's character doesn't work without him, and he's not bad in his own right. [sub]Also, if that one off guy from series one counts, Sarah Jane Smith and K-9 should both count, too.[/sub]

I completely agree with this. Amy is an excellent character, and was definitely the best suited to Smith's Doctor. They had real, tangible chemistry! I did like the fact it didn't actually go anywhere, although I may be biased because

I have reasons for liking them all, but I'll just talk about the main assistants.
Rose - her romance with the Doctor was really moving, and it was genuinely so sad when he never got to say he loved her. Plus, she was rather witty and very relatable.
Martha - I liked that she was smart trustworthy, level headed and fairly cool. In the finale of her series she was AWESOME
Donna - I think Donna is SO funny. She makes me laugh so much.
Amy - She's Amy. She's pretty awesome and funny and lovable.
