X was far too linear for my liking
FFVI is the best 2D one
FFXII my favourite 3D one
Tactics Advance is my favourite spin-off

I can agree that the junction system sucks... Horribly! And the characters are pretty bad, but in my opinion the overall story (ie. w/o the crappy dialog) is pretty satisfying. Not compared with good books and comic-books and movies... And games with good stories, but compared to other Final Fantasy titles.
Well, FFIX is my favorite FF so far. Next is XII (I may rattle on about my complaints about story, but the game DID suck away 116 hours of my life, and I haven't beaten Yiazmat yet). And then FFX. FFX is third because it has that laughing scene. Oh my god the laughing scene.
Yeah, the laughing scene is pe-retty bad. But I don't really mind, since the rest of the game is amazing.
Also I haven't played Final Fantasy IX so I wouldn't know if it's any good.

My favorite Final Fantasy's were IV, VIII, and Tactics. I voted VIII though.

IV was epic and I'd played it as a boy for my SNES (back when it was FFII).
Ignoring my SNES days, I played VIII for PSX next, and it's my first 3D Final Fantasy.
Tactics had an amazing story.

And IV had Kain. The entire reason I started using 'dragoon' in my names was because of Kain.
So bam.

Its probably not the best one out there, but I played XII the most because there was so much to do.
My favorite one would be VI because of large interesting cast and an amazing villian.
My second favorite would be X because it was my first one and also my first PS2 game, and those graphics are really something when youre used to an n64.

I also like the PSX ones but not as much as the above.
I also never completed VIII and IX, I should someday try that.

Out of those choices, XII by far. Otherwise, it'd be none of those, as IV, VI, I and Tactics were all more enjoyable to me than those were (although XII does stack up against them very well).

Play it, it's good. And it still has the best FMV [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GemT2kn1TC0&fmt=18] in any FF I've ever seen. EVER. The third part in particular.

Well seeing as I can't find the only good FF, FF6, I can't vote. But FF6 anyway.
This.

FF6 was, in my opinion, the very pinnacle of Square/FinalFantasy greatness...a very good story, tons of characters to choose from with special attacks to boot, unique bosses (Ghost Train) and a lead character that wasn't constantly bemoaning about his life.

Oh, and how could i forget Mog the dancing Moogle :)

FFX, is not only my favorite FF by a mile, it is my second favorite game in existence, topped onl by Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete.

I recently replayed FFVII and enjoyed it although I am not certain as to which I would rank higher between VII and VIII.

I hated XII, because Vaan was a piss poor main character that could have been removed from the entire game and nothing would need to be altered; alongside Penalo however I liked her for some reason. My gripe with XII was it had so much story developmental potential, the setting was intriguing, the characters all interested save the aforementioned two and a jaw droppingly gorgeous game world, however all this was cast to the wayside because there is practically no development whatsoever and Vaan is constantly told by the bloody game itself he is a loser and should not be the main character.

It amounted to nothing more then a dungeon crawler and cheap MMO knock off in my opinion.
