Back when it first came out and had some of the most realistic graphics ever, the ending to Onimusha: Warlords was five levels of fucking awesome.

I don't have a favourite cutscene, but my most hated are all the cutscenes in Gears of War 2, they annoy me to no end.
That's odd, because I thought the cut scenes were fantastic. The intro cutscene in number 2, and the one where the Raven gets shot down in number 1 in particular. They're pretty epic. Why did you find them annoying?

Also, the +1 to the Left 4 Dead intro.
Well, it wasn't that they didn't look awesome, it was just the numerous amounts of cutscenes for a very lacking story didn't help me to like them any better. Also, the attempt at emotion when he finds his wife almost made me laugh (no attempt to save her, just put her out of her misery like you would a horse?), and the raw dripping testosterone from each character gives me no connection to them, so prolonged expose to their attempted acting seemed futile. Also, Cole was probably the most annoying "token black guy" I have encountered in any game or movie.

It wasn't the worst voice acting I have ever heard in a game, but it wasn't the greatest. I just generally don't play a lot of games with cutscenes, and when I do, the games usually have a story or likeable characters, that you actually care what the story behind them is.

probably something of a FF game, don't know which though.

and you should remove that poll too, there's 2 threads i can see with the exact same poll in threads made for console discussion, not ingame cinematics

I know it's not technically a cut scene, but walking through city 17 was a real mood setter on what you are fighting and how terrible the conditions of the people's lives. In the more pure sense I would say the Bioshock cut scene were you kill the person with the golf club. Well I managed to say that without a spoiler.

Mass Effect. From wonder at the detail of the facial expressions to admiration in the choice of shots/lighting and the tone they set to awe from the scale of events portrayed.

Just...Mass Effect.

Edit: And the music!

Where is PC?
Consoles and pcs are one comparable since pcs are always upgraded/discarded in favor of newer.

I really liked the ending cutscenes in prince of persia: tsot, but that was probably only because of the story. A lot of final fantasy games and Lost Odyssey has some really nice ones I guess.

COD 4 and half life 2 + the episodes had some really nice ones too.

Where is the "None" option?

Until they start 1) making keyboard and mouse adapters for consoles, AND 2) either start making games that do not need rebalancing OR allowing PC editing tools to somehow plug into console games, I am sticking with PC and not even going to consider buying any console.

valkyria chronicles.

Isara's death in valkyria chronicles. Ridiculously tragic, and they did it at a point so unexpected, and in a really interesting scene to begin with (rose's apology). Then theres the song she sings in the following scene, which is almost equally as good.

Final Fantasy 9 - When the airship full of Vivi's (mages) GETS DESTROYED and they all go flying, the music was sad, I cried. The best.

How does the poll and topic relate? And I'm not sure if this counts, but in Bioshock:

Watching Andrew Ryan's ending speech on a man and a slave, and revealing you are a slave to the words "Would you kindly?".
This is exactly what I was thinking when I entered this thread. I'm sure I've seen other great ones, but this one stands out in my memory the most.

The best cutscene...

Sarcastically, the intro for Dead Rising where the reporter wears a helmet AND a hat AT THE SAME TIME.

Seriously, and I cant beleive no one has mentioned it, Warcraft 3 had some awesome cutscenes for its day, like the destruction of the world tree or the ascension of Arthas to the Frozen Throne...

"Would you kindly..." was a great one. Would never have worked if not for the First Person Perspective (I have no idea why I capatalized that). A good amount of the Metal Gear Solid 4 cut scenes were very good, and I mean very good, but there are just so many good cutscenes nowadays that it really is hard to pick a favorite. I thought the scene where Link gets the Master Sword in Ocarina of Time was the greatist ever at the time.

EDIT: The guy above mentioned Warcraft III, and I agree those cutscenes were very good for the time and even now hold up.

Yeah, I have to agree about the one where Dom finds his wife. It was a bit painful really.

The intro to Half Life 2 when the G-Man pulls you out of stasis and tells you to "Wake up. Wake up and smell the ashes."

The end cut scene in Mass Effect when the Normandy dive bombs Sovergen, causing it to explode making people think you're dead. Then you emerge from the rubble victorious!

The intro to Half Life 2 Episode 1

The ending to Half Life 2 Episode 2 (ok, not really a cut scene, but still touching and epic.)

In BioShock, when Andrew Ryan reveals that you're under mind control, then has you kill him with his putter while screaming "A man chooses, a slave obeys."

The good ending to BioShock (nearly cried.)

I second that... a heart racingly wonderful orgy of suspense, violence and good old fashioned epic adventure!

When Lisa changes in Silent Hill one [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jMMs6eHn3YA], and the "In Water" ending of Silent Hill two [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=liZnngCJQRo]. They both break my heart.
