I havent't played Arkham City yet, but going by the descriptions in the reviews, as well as the fact i loved the first one, it's probably going to be it.

Portal 2 and DE:HR we're both good games, but both also managed to disappoint me (for the exact reasons Yahtzee mentioned in his review: Portal 2 being a sightseeing tour that begrudgingly has a puzzle game, and Human Revolution for c*cking up the ending bigtime, pretty much failing to tie any loose threads up).

inFamous II
a brilliant, brilliant game that made me cry and laugh! Oh and the stand alone inFamous Festival of Blood, that was released on PSN last week, that too rocks!

I'd agree with you, except the flying dogfights took a nasty turn once you unlocked heat seeking missles.

Nothing is more satisfying than outflying you opponent and taking him down with the machine guns.

Edit: I'd say Battlefield 3, but it honestly sorta underwhelmed me. So Skyrim.

I only just realized how close launch day is.

I've got to say, as much as I enjoyed Deus Ex: Human Revolution and The Witcher 2, Dragon Age 2 is probably still the game I've had the most enjoyment from so far this year.

Oh, and the most recent release of Angband is very nice.

I haven't played Dark Souls yet, but so far I'm going with Portal 2. It's nearly flawless aside from the campaign being too easy, but the co-op mode made up for that.

Alice: Madness Returns, inFamous 2 and Deus Ex: Human Revolution are all serious contenders to me.

I don't know anyone who liked that game. It released with a bunch of critical hype behind it, but the writing was dull and the interrogation mechanic was unintuitive and poorly executed. Those two things dragged it down a lot.

So Far?

Batman Arkham City
Catherine
Dead Rising 2 Off the Record
Bastion
And I'm leaving a space in my top 5 open for Skyrim, but on the off chance it sucks and nothing else good comes out Blood Rayne Betrayal rounds out the year.

The only reason Portal 2 is off the list is because it wasn't better than Portal.

Batman Arkahm city, and deus ex HR. Had so much fun with both games.
Skyrim will hopefully blow them both out of the water

This is just me personally but LA Noire was tedious.

A stunning lack of side-quests made the GIANT! sandbox completely unnecessary.

The driving tripped the length of the game, and hitting anything would tank your star rating so there was no reason not to let your partner do all the driving.

The facial recognition thing was pretty cool but it didn't make up for how stiff the rest of the game was

I'm going with Catherine. It was a pretty simple game but the story was fresh, presentation was great, I loved the characters, and the puzzle elements were actually awesome as hell. I hated LA Noire, and Human Revolution was a massive disappointment. Arkham City was eh. I guess runners for the top spot would be Bastion and From Dust... AAA gaming really let me down this year.

I have not played Dark Souls yet, and I'm waiting for The Witcher 2 to come out on Xbox. Once I play those two and Skyrim I expect my list will look a bit different.

Probably going to get flamed for this or something.
I think once I play Skyrim I'll change my mind. I can't wait for that game.
^This, Skyrim's definitely winning when it comes along, but for now, BF3 for sure. Loads of fun, loads of different ways to play, I haven't even begun to explore all of them, still mostly sticking to air combat a bit to get my jet flying skills back in order, it's been a while since I used them back in BF: Vietnam (so far, so good, got my first Air Warfare badge today ^^).
