The N64's generation won me over for these seven words:

"The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time".

Gen 4, because it had SNES. Shitty graphics meant that games had to be based on gameplay, story and fun, while still being recent enough to have some seriously well-done games.

I took best to mean the most fun to me personally and voted for Gen 5.

My whole family has played stuff on the NES and it's a family favourite even today; ask my mother and she'll tell you that the age of walkthroughs brought her infinite joy just because she could finally get past one part of The Legend of Zelda.

Most of my gaming happened during Gen 6, on the PS2, but what I did play in Gen 5 on both the PSX and N64 was of immense gaming and emotional value, so it wins thanks to a combination of quality and nostalgia. Chrono Cross, some Mario Party, Tekken 3 and Donkey Kong 64 surface from the lake of memories as particularly enjoyable gems.

To be honest, I thought this was going to be about people... I was so prepared to say 1940's generation... I'm somewhat sad now.

close tie between forth and fifth. Im amazed at how many people voted for this generation as I haven't run into a single game I can't live without on any of the new systems. I had more fun playing super mario world on my snes for 5 quick minutes before a movie than I did beating the entire game of Resident evil 5.
Cause back then you were a kid. Everything is better from childhood days....

I never really experienced the first 4, and the last 3 all have their benefits.

I love them all equally.

Generation X!

I'm kidding. It's definitely a very tight fight against the 5th and 6th generation, mainly because the PS2 had a larger amount of great games that can still be played today, more than with the PS1, but I was more of a kid when I had the PS1, and thus I have better memories of it, when I was more care-free.

I can't decide...

Damn i have to pick between the N64 and the PS2? Thats too difficult!
Those were my thoughts exactly but N64 won in the end... those were when video games were video games. /oldtimer speech
Very true, wow were old...not to mention games were 60-70 dollars back then and we didnt whine like these yougins.
And we had to walk bare-feet to the closest bus stop IN THE SNOW* to just see if the game was in stock. And we were GRATEFUL for the opportunity.

*That's right it snowed in California in the good old days.
....The N64 began in 97. That's nothing.
Lol try walking to school 5 kilometers for 3 years in CANADA! And then again in highschool for a year, which was 8 kilometers away. So piss off. And I'm only 16.

Simply because most of my favorite games are on it, and my collection of games for this console exceeds the rest, PS2.

Kingdom Hearts, MGS2 and 3, Devil May Cry, Final Fantasy X and XII, Maximo, God of War, Resident Evil 4, Silent Hill 2, PoP, and Ico.

Cant get much better than that.

For me, it had to be generation 6. I wasn't really into gaming until I got my Gamecube.
I had a Gameboy, but that's it. Then I got my PS2, and got into killing things/people with
huge guns.

Every one of those generations had ups and downs within its span.

Overall I think I enjoyed generation 5 the most, but I think game development philosophy has really matured over time. If I had to choose just one to play, I'd still prefer the current generation (7) of games since they have evolved from the developments in prior generations. They're "standing on the shoulders of giants".

To be honest, anyone who picks below 6 is lying to look cool and retro. I mean, I loved the NeoGeo, but the old systems have aged badly.
Generation 6. Dreamcast and PS2.

Meh Gen 7 FTW. everybody always says that things were better back then. sure i came in a little late. (first console was a Super Nintendo)
But really...have you picked up and played the games of the later generations.
a good game series to bring this out with is the Zelda series.
i played through the Twilight princess on my Gamecube. I loved it. epic win.
BUT i was told by a LOT of people that the old 64 zelda games were way better.
therefor i played through all the 64 zelda games.
and i have one thing to say to anyone who told me that and that is, bull mother fuckin shit.
in comparison Twilight princess kicked the hell out of ANY of the 64 games.
then while it was down and dead it decided to kick it more.
meh, i just dont get as nostalgic as other i suppose. i merely take it as it is.
though i did have TONS of fun with my GCN and the Epic win that is timesplitters series...
and SSM:M
Still, nostalgia put aside 7 wins.
gaming only gets better my friends.

I'M TIPING IN ALL CAPS CAUSE THAT MAKES ME LOOK COOL AND POPULAR HERE, ANYWAY I'M REALLY SURPRISED HOW FEW PEOPLE PICKED THE NES ERA, MAYBE IT'S BECAUSE MOST GAMERS TODAY ARE OBNOXIOUS 14 YEAR OLD PRICKS WHO DON'T KNOW DICK ABOUT THE TRUE SPIRIT OF GAMING!!

Yeah....
you my friend are the only one who has forgotten the spirit of gaming.
what kind of a hypocitical fuck-off even brings that into conversations like this.
we just couldnt tell that you were an obnoxious fuckin 14 year old because your FUCKIN NES DIDNT HAVE A MOTHER FUCKING MIC.
